Sleep is fundamental to good physical health and well-being of mind. Here the amount of adequate sleep varies from age to some degrees depending on the person. Adults, generally speaking you should aim for 7-9 hours of sleep a night with teenagers needing around 8-10 and children — quite frankly, the taller your child is the more sleep that they need. Sleep guides the body to repair cells, boosts the immune system and enhances concentration and memory. Also good quality sleep helps keep the hormonal equilibrium that regulates appetite and body metabolism.

Health Issues of Lack of Sleep

Too little sleep may result in a number of health issues. Short term one can feel tired and easily distracted, memory decline and one or an overdose of mood swings (stress or irritability). Too little sleep can also suppress the immune system, lead to accidents by causing you to fall asleep along while driving and it more reduce productivity. Chronic lack of sleep results to heart problems, high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes or mental illness like depression and anxiety for years.

Excessive sleep, much like the lack of sleep can be just as potentially detrimental to health. Everybody who sleeps more than 9-10 hours daily are high risk cases of severe tiredness, headaches and metabolic disorders. Research has found sleeping for longer or less sleep can raise the chance to have diabetes, weight problem and heart problem; it is even more badly when excessive sleep. Also, too much rest can mess up natural sleep cycle makes one to suffer from insomnia even in night and interfere the hormonal homeostasis of body.

To be healthy, a good sleep schedule is necessary; one that the body needs.
