My artwork using paper

My favorite subject back then in school.

When I was still in school, almost all the subjects where interesting to me because, we had amazing and well trained teachers, but, as we all we all know, we can't have same degree of love for two different things due to one or two reasons. As such, there was a subject we call C.C.A (cultural and creative art). That subject was actually my best and favorite subject. I won't forget, I use to score the highest mark in that particular subject due to the kind of time i normally spend reading and practicing it. Back then in school, my C.C.A teacher like me so much because, I never disappoint nor fail his subject. To make it short, cultural and creative art was my favorite subject.

Explain one topic of your favorite subject.

All the topics I learned In C.C.A back then in school were very interesting, but today, I will like to talk about
MODELING WITH PAPIER-MACHE

Papier-mache is a French word, which means mashed paper, which is used to model object into different shapes.
And modelling simply means an art of molding an object with different materials.
So we can now defined modelling with papier-mache as an art of using paper to mold an object Into various shapes of our choice. For example, we can use paper to mold plate, bottles, birds, etc. Depending on what we actually want to mold.

How to prepare papier-mache for modelling

  1. Gather enough paper that will be enough for the modelling
  2. Use scissors to cut the paper Into smaller bits
  3. Soak the papers in water for hours until it get very soft
  4. Remove the soaked paper from water and squeeze the water out of it.
  5. Use your mortar and pestle to pound the paper so as to form pulp
  6. Use hot water to prepare cassava starch and mix it with the pounded paper until its fairly thick.
Then you can now use it to mold any object you want.

How to mold plate using papier-mache

After preparing the papier-mache following the above steps, You can follow the below guidance to make a plate.

  • apply either vegetable oil or grease on external surface of the plate which serve as your molding object.
  • apply the prepare pulp very well on the oiled surface
  • allow it to dry and get hard.
  • finally, apply your colour or paint on it to enhance it beauty.

Uses of papier-mache

  1. It can be used to teach students shapes and forms
  2. It can be used to enhance teaching and learning process
  3. It can be used to encourage students to recycle waste products such as paper
  4. It can be used to teach improvisation
  5. It can be used for decoration purposes

Safety measure in papier-mache

  • need to be carefully when handling scissors to avoid injury
  • when boiling water, you need to be careful to avoid burning
  • casava starch can easily stain either your books or clothes, so you need to be careful when mixing it.

Reason why I like the subject.

As we all know, there is always a reason for everything. And as such I have my own reasons to why I love C.C.A. one of the factors that influenced me was the teacher handling the subject. He is by name Mr agbaru. He was such a great personality. He was more like a mentor, a teacher, counsellor, etc. His methods of teaching was just wow.., he was a kind of teacher that would hardly teach without you understanding the concept. More to that, we normally perform the practicals of almost every topic, and that use to enhance our understanding, and it encourage us to see that we make something by ourselves. So it was just amazing.

How I enjoyed learning C.C.A

Talking about how I enjoyed learning the subject, C.C.A happens to be a subject that is more of practical. You can perform most of the practicals without spending much, and you get your desired result. And I happens to be a person that love creativity so much. As such, I use to find it interesting when I go out there, gather some material and make something out of them. With that I was able to make so many things by myself, and I find pleasure in it.

In conclusion, cultural and creative art was my best subject, and my teacher was the basic influence behind my interest in the subject. One thing that kept me going was the ability to create new things using what other persons consider as waste in the society. And today, I still have memories of how we performed some practicals and some of the things I made at home. the pictures you see are some of the materials that are still with me.

Thanks for being with me to this very end of my writing. I love you all at steemians.
