Steemit Engagement Challenge S3:W3 - What different animals can teach humans by @patjewell

Rio, our beloved child

Can animals love their owners?

I have often asked myself this question. It is easy for us as humans as we can express our love in words but animals can’t. It is clear that they can show affection towards us but love?

To be able to answer this question we only need to watch the movie Rio. This amazing 3D animated movie tells us of Blu, a macaw, who was found by a little girl. The bond formed between these two takes the viewer on an amazing, funny and heart sore trip.

Today I want to introduce you to Rio.

Rio is a macaw, a bird classified under the parrot family, who was part of our family since 2017.

We got him as a baby. He was so tiny that we had to feed him with a syringe and a special mix of cereal and bird food. He was our child, our adorable and also naughty child.

Soon Rio was part of the family. We took him everywhere with us even down to the coast to our family holiday home. He didn’t like travelling the twelve hours in his cage but he knew that in the end it would always be rewarding. Not to mention how he excited he got when we stopped along the road for fuel and refreshments.

Macaws are extremely curious and intelligent which we got to discover very quickly. He followed us all over the home, climbing the steps to get to us. He ate with us and no, not out of his bowl but from our plates and he would not start eating unless we have said a prayer.

I got so excited when I saw this contest as I know what we have learned as a family from Rio was truly amazing and something nobody can ever take away from us.

Capture2.PNG

10 Things we as a family learned from Rio

1. To start each morning with a song in our hearts

Rio would whistle and call us from his cage every morning celebrating the day. He wouldn’t stopped until we have said hello to him. He could say "Hello" in the morning in the most welcoming fashion, truly heartwarming. I always said that as a family we just need to listen to Rio in the mornings to have a good start to our day.

2. To look after your personal hygiene

I'm certain that you didn't expect to see this point. Rio was the one who called us for his daily shower. He would walk from our bedroom to the bathroom and back until we’ve opened the taps. The reason for this, he was spoiled. He showered with my husband every morning.

3. To be kids again and to play

Gosh, he could play for hours at a time. We got tired of playing but not Rio. He would just carry on, and on and on. Never a dull moment when Rio was near. We've learned to be young at heart again. We've learned to laugh from deep inside our bellies. We had endless happy moments playing with him.

4. To explore the world around us

He found the most interesting places in the home where he would hide from us. Believe it or not, he would hide there not making a sound until we have seen him and when we did his excitement was worth the looks and calling after him. All we need to do is to look around us to discover those unique hiding places.

5. To enjoy the simplest of things as they count the most

As macaws are big “chewers” we had to buy him wooden toys so that he could chew and play with them. It was often the simplest of toys which kept him entertained and not the expensive toys. Give him an empty toilet paper roll and he was at his happiest. Maybe he got excited about the mess he made.

Money cannot buy the simplest things in life. It is for us to find them, just like Rio did.

6. To appreciate nature

He wanted to be outside where he could watch the seagulls and the sun go down. A humans we often don’t have or should I say, don’t make, time to sit and enjoy the beauty of nature. It was not easy getting Rio back into the house before it was properly dark.

He called us to silence, to sit and reflect on the day. To say thank you for being kept safe, thank you for achievements and thank you for just being there for us.

7. To never give up

He would practice for hours to get something right. So often we wondered how long it would take for him to get out of his cage after we have locked him in with a new gadget or idea. Somehow he always got out, a true escape artist.
If he was battling to untie a rope from one of his toys he will get frustrated banging it on the cage BUT he would never give up.

8. To speak up

Gosh, he would throw his toys if he wanted to “say something” and we were not paying any attention and he would not stop until we have listened. If he had no more toys to throw he would start banging on his cage.
"This is me Rio, and you better start listening now".

9. To love each other

He would come to us and nestle in our arms. He would fell asleep on my husband’s chest laying on his back. Love is never far away, it is right under our noses is clearly what he was telling us.

And that bring me back to the question I asked at the beginning of the post. Can animals love their owners?
I am convinced that Rio loved us just as much as we loved him.

10. To say Amen if you don’t want your food to get cold

He would not start eating unless he heard that “Amen”. Precious!

Oh yah, I forgot one thing. We had to learn the hard way that you must be careful what you say as it can be repeated at the most awkward of times.

The dynamic relationships which are formed between humans and animals is a two way street of pure joy, happiness, love... and LEARNING!

I appreciate being invited. Yes, we have a lot of learning from animals. The dogs teach us the value of gratitude while the rooster wakes us up in the morning. Happy to hear that you have a pet like Rio. Furthermore, it is hard to handle the hurt when they separate us. Have a nice day dear.

hard to handle the hurt when they separate us

This is so true! It broke our hearts when we got separated.

How cute is Rio parrot, they talk like human.

He would fell asleep on my husband’s chest laying on his back. Love is never far away, it is right under our noses is clearly what he was telling us.

I just amazed to read how much love and attachment you have with parrot, absolutely right love is not far away

Thank you for reading and engaging with my post. It is appreciated.
I kept us busy that's for sure. Wanted all the attention in the house.(•ิ‿•ิ)

Thank you for inviting me to this contest ma, you have written well about Rio and all it has taught you too. The statement below captured my attention.

We had to learn the hard way that you must be careful what you say as it can be repeated at the most awkward of times.

This is very true because i have seen it with most parrots around me. I wish you success in this contest ma.

What I cannot understand is that they always pick up the wrong word. (•ิ‿•ิ)
Thank you for visiting and engaging my friend! It is always nice seeing your name in the replies.

@tipu curate

Good explanation about the lesson that animal's teach us. Good luck bro 😊.

Thank you! And a big thank you for reading and engaging with my post.
We can learn so much from animals.

You have written a wonderful piece. Rio is indeed a great carrot and it behaves almost like a human being, signalling when to bath, when he needs a listening ear, when he needs to play. In fact, Rio loves the family and the family loves him too.

Goodluck!!

Thank you for these great words. So often our animals are no longer animals but a human been.
Believe it or not, Rio even got Christmas presents at Christmas time.(•ิ‿•ิ)

Believe it or not, Rio even got Christmas presents at Christmas time

Wow, this is serious. This shows that your family love Rio so much. It is good. Pets should be treated with so much care.

If you talk a lot they learn quickly haha even the profanity they say is perfect, recently I inherited two macaws they break everything but I love their plumage and how cute they are.

What great happiness God gives us with these Animals!

Cheers!

Oh wow! You've got two! How blessed you are.
You are right in them breaking everything. We learned well how to keep Rio busy so that he doesn't get bored.
A silly toy, the plastic tops from colddrink bottles on a string tied to his cage kept him busy for hours! (•ิ‿•ิ)
Enjoy your two children!

If you have to find a way to entertain him, I have to go visit him every day because my uncle passed away and I take care of them, although they don't like the photos, so I don't bother them, but they love to talk, I love the colors of their plumage Rio es a beauty!

Awh! Sorry to read about your uncle. I know he appreciated what you are doing for his beloved birds. Thank you!

Wow, like I always say your entries are always top notch. Interesting and at the same time, checking all the boxes required for the contest.

What a bond your family has formed with Rio, and he has taught y’all to showcase all these among yourselves? That’s great, good luck with the contest.

Knock knock?
Who's there?

Macaws are very intelligent. I have seen some of them riding little bicycles. What surprised me is how quickly they learn.
Thank you for visiting my post and for you kind remarks. 🎕

To start each morning with a song in our hearts

To look after your personal hygiene

To be kids again and to play

We can actually learn out from animals and especially the fact that these animals reflect the creator. His wisdom, love power and justice are clearly seen from the world's creation onward. You have written so we'll about Rio and I enjoyed it so well. Success dear friend

Thank you for visit to my post and the beautiful words.
Rio was a member of the family. Cute but also naughty. I always said part from my hubby he was our biggest kid. (•ิ‿•ิ)

There are many things that you as a family have learned from Rio, your beautiful macaw.

The daily coexistence with the animals and the love that is expressed to them, will awaken in him the intelligence and love for humans, leading him to show the most beautiful qualities as gratitude.

Such beautiful and true words.
I've only listed 10 things we have learned from you but there are indeed many more. Animals can bring out the best in all of us.
Thank you for reading and engaging with my post!

Río es un hermoso guacamayo, y esos razgos que ud menciona son especiales, ellos aprenden y adoptan conductas, se ve que es un personaje.

My friend you have nailed it! He was a "character" (•ิ‿•ิ)
Part of the family but still staying true to his "tribe".
Thank you for reading and engaging. It is appreciated!

Wow, Rio is quite a fun bird. I wish i could hear him speak, i have never been privileged to hear a parrot speak 😥.
Your family has learnt quite a lot throughout the course of having Rio with you.
Thanks for sharing my good friend

Umh... you don't want to hear Rio speak my friend. He says hello and all the other "wrong" words (•ิ‿•ิ)
There are some parrots who speaks a lot but the macaws usually don't. They love to shout.
Thanks for the visit!

Oh i see, he sound fun to be with nonetheless. I like parrots, even though i have never met one up close.

An amazingly well-behaved child and your true friend! Thanks for your beautiful post!

Just like a little a child. I failed to mention how he could also sulk. (•ิ‿•ิ)

Gosh, he would throw his toys if he wanted to “say something” and we were not paying any attention and he would not stop until we have listened.

Some times my dog doing like this, and many time they call melike this for my safety..

Tha ks for sharing with us

Our Nature always teach lot of things to us,but we cont understand those.

Nice entry from you. Take care .

Thank you! I appreciate your kind words and the visit to my post.
It is sad that often we miss the things that nature presents to us due to us being to busy.

Yes my friend.

Your post remind me the movie RIO which character is the same kind parrot as yours

Exactly! That is why we called him Rio.(•ิ‿•ิ
I just love that movie!
Thank you for reading and engaging with my post

Oh really!, I watched the movie several times and I remember every scene of the movie

Rio is such a mood and the way you explain about him is just awesome. Macaws are of a very jolly and friendly nature and they live their life like that. If I would have a pet like Rio, The first thing I would do is talk to him and dance around. All the points you have mentioned come from your heart and I felt it. Gret post @patjewell mam

Thank you for the visit to my blog and for your kind words. Macaws are also very moody. Well, Rio was. He would sit on his cage ignoring us if he was not in the mood for us 😊

Hello my friend!
Nice to see you hear.
Thank you for reading and engaging with my post. It is so true, so often we just give up. I see it with my stepson. I don't know if he is just lazy but he gives up just after trying once. 🙈

Am surprised, never had a pet though, but how come I think Rio is human, with all of his characters, I can say he/she is human, so much from a macaw. and its breed is rear, I haven't seen any of his types closely, but I have seen a lot of part too, thanks for sharing, there are lot of motivations beneath rios characters,

Thanks for sharing

I can tell you one thing, animals will always surprise us 😊
Thank you for the visit!

You are welcome

You have discussed very good things about animal people. We can learn a lot from animals. This bird of yours is very beautiful. Good luck to you

So your pet is too curious to explore. We learned that exploration can lead to peace.

Your engagement is appreciated.

:)

It is true that a dynamic pure relationship is created between humans and animals. However, it is true that the affectionate relationship that develops towards humans and beloved pets is sometimes marked as emotionally wrenching. Thank you very much for sharing a nice presentation with us.

Awh thank you for reading and engaging with my post! It is appreciated.
I agree so with your "emotional wrenching". They are no longer pets but a family member.

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment.

The most important part of having a pet bird is the bonding with owner So, they are highly intelligent and affectionate bird, treating their owner as part of their flock.@patjewell.

This is so true! They also form one relationship with one individual That we have seen.
