Welcome back to my page. How are you all? I hope you all are fit and fine. Today I am here with a recipe for banana flowers along with the health benefits of it.

In Bengali cuisine, it is a common recipe and often we consume the delicacy with steamed rice.

So, today I thought to not only share that recipe but to share why we should have banana flowers to get a healthy lifestyle.

THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF BANANA FLOWERS

  • Helpful for cancer and heart disease:-


    Banana flowers contain tannins, flavonoids, acids, and antioxidants. Hence it helps neutralize free revolutionaries and eradicate the oxidative deterioration which leads to cancer and heart disease.

  • Gastrointestinal health:-

    As banana flowers are rich in soluble and insoluble fiber thus its soluble fiber authorizes the food to pass effortlessly via the digestive tract as it liquefies in water and forms a gel.

The insoluble fiber helps the prevalence of unabsorbed yields as it is not disbanded in water. That's how banana flowers facilitate the nutritional digestion and absorption of foodstuffs.


  • Healthy uterus:-

    Often women suffer from different diseases of the uterus, consuming banana flowers by adding some spices like cumin seeds, turmeric powder, and peppercorns can eliminate uterus problems.

  • Menstrual problems and weight loss:-

banana flowers increase progesterone which allows reducing undue bleeding. As it is affluent in fiber and nutrients, it results in weight loss.


  • Improves lactation:-

Consuming banana flowers helps to increase and supply breast milk for lactating mothers. It maintains a beneficial uterus, prohibits constipation during pregnancy, and stimulates lactation.

Now let me share the recipe with you all

INGREDIENTS:-

  • Banana flowers:- 1 full cup freshly chopped (it is better to take the banana flowers from the seeds of the banana plant).
  • Black gram- 1/4th cup(overnight soaked).
  • Coconut- 1 tbsp(roughly diced).
  • Potato- 1 medium(diced).
  • Green chilies- 2 or more as per your choice.

SPICES-

  • Bay leaf- 1 no.
  • Dry red chilies- 1-2(broken).
  • Cumin seeds- 1/2 tsp.
  • Cumin Powder- 1 tsp.
  • Ginger powder-1 tsp.
  • Clarified butter- 1 tbsp.
  • Garam masala Powder- 1/2 tsp.
  • Salt- To taste.
  • Turmeric powder- 1 tsp.
  • Sugar- To taste(optional).
  • Mustard oil- 1 tbsp.

PREPARATION METHOD:-

Step1-

Firstly parboiled chopped banana flowers by adding a pinch of salt and mustard oil and setting them aside.

Step2-

Place a wide mouth vessel on medium flame and add the remaining mustard oil. Once the oil becomes hot enough, add bay leaf, broken dry red chilies, and cumin seeds and saute for 1-2 seconds. Once cumin seeds are stopped crackling add diced potatoes and fry for 2-3 minutes on low flame.

Step3-

Now add soaked black grams, diced coconuts, salt, turmeric powder, cumin powder, ginger powder, and sugar, and mix all ingredients well.

Step4-

Next add parboiled banana flowers and green chilies and combine all ingredients well. Now lower the flame and cover the pan by adding 1/2 cup of water.

Step5-

After five minutes remove the lid and check the quantity of salt, if required then adjust at this stage. Now fry until the water evaporates completely.

Step6-

Next add clarified butter and Garam Masala Powder and mix well. Again cover the pan with a lid and turn off the flame and keep the lid covered for another five minutes so that banana flowers absorb the flavor of clarified butter and garam masala.

Step7-

Now the banana flower is ready to serve with steamed rice.
