This is my submission for Contest-1 : Fiction Story: Prompt "Who was in the backyard?"

Today Sharad Talpade was very happy, after waiting for almost 10 years, his department had given him promotion. He worked hard in the homicide Crime Investigation Department for 10 years but was always denied a promotion either because of some of his mistake or because of jealousy of a colleague in the department.

Although he had very good relations with his high officials, but it is very difficult to know what someone is thinking from inside. He is a very honest and courageous policeman, till date he has not taken any bribe from any criminal, nor has he forgiven any criminal for his crimes.

In a way, his image in the department is that of a headstrong police cop. Due to this madness of his, some of his enemies have also become, and they keep thinking of harming him. But due to Talpade's vigilance, nothing has happened to him till date.

Today, to celebrate his promotion, he has invited some of his department mates and some of his personal friends for a drinks and dinner party at his home.

Talpade is completely satisfied with his salary, since he has no other income, he and his wife and their one son, about 5 years old, live on rent in a part of the house. The house is built quite old, there are about 4 families living inside it, but the house is fine from the inside, and there is an empty field lying on the back side of the house, in which two old cars and a school van type vehicle were parked. perhaps these vehicles were the landlords old property, and he was not selling them because of his old things love .

The condition of all the three vehicles was dilapidated, but probably the landlord was very fond of his old things, so he had put those old cars there.

Talpade had arranged the party at home, so he arranged the party on the terrace of the house. It was around 9 in the night, there were not more than 50-60 guests in the party.

The men were busy sipping their wine in one corner, and the women gossiping with snacks. The atmosphere was very happy, Talpade was also a little drunk by now, then the atmosphere echoed with the sound of a bullet. This bullet was aimed at Talpade, but in the gust of intoxication, he suddenly bent down, so the bullet came out near his ear and hit the tin roof in front of him.

There were mostly policemen there, so many of them immediately ran towards the backyard of the house, but there was no one there in the backyard . They seemed as if someone had just run away from there in his car, because the marks of the tires of a car were clearly visible.

When the matter was investigated after the party, it was found that Talpade had caught a criminal last year and he had tried to kill Talpade. because on the same day he came out from the jail. That criminal was caught again very soon and this time he went to jail again for a long time.

But Talpade had not learned any lesson from this incident as well, now after getting promotion, he was following them with full vigour to catch more criminals.
