Agusan del Sur: Where the River Flows

in hive-169461 •  3 years ago  (edited)

First of all, I want to thank sir @long888 for hosting this challenge and to @SteemitAchievers and @SteemitPhilippines community for making this possible. I really had so much fun writing this and once in my life, I have never imagined I could write something about my province. I have never been more proud of my province until now.

Hello everyone! This is Jane and I will be your tour guide for today's adventure. So, if you're ready, grab some drink or a snack, find a place where you're comfortable with, and let's get on and start the ride.

So today's adventure, I will be taking you on an adventure to my beloved province - Agusan del Sur.

Agusan del Sur comes from the name "Agusan" which means "where the river flows" that refers to the Agusan River

This river is very wide and it runs on a 250 kilometer rush to Butuan Bay and it is also the third largest river in the country.

Today, I will be showing you 3 of the best places you can visit in my province.

Are you ready for the ride? Well, I could hear you say "YES" so, let's go!

First, let me take you to the place nearest to my home and that is ...

GIBONG RIVER

If you want to indulge into a river cruise, Gibong River is the perfect place for you. This river is wide and calm and its bank provides such abundant greenery where your eyes will really be refreshed.

But, this river isn't just a beauty. It is also a source of water irrigation to 6000 hectares of rice fields to its nearby municipalities.

When I was in college, my school is near this river and it really is a beautiful site to see. Beyond what is seen on the camera's lens, it is much much more beautiful to look at in person.

Now let us head straight south for our next stop. Brace yourselves for this is going to be a crazy-beautiful stop.

BEGA FALLS

Bega Falls is located in the town of Prosperidad and it is only about 30 minutes to travel from my home going there. It is so funny to think that the name Bega Falls is derived from the Bisaya word "Biga" which means, "to flirt".

Legend says that this falls is the home of a beautiful diwata (fairy) who tries to seduce men by its beauty. It is said that whoever the diwata ended up luring has never been found again. I am not sure if this story is real but this is the same story you'd hear if you're going to ask people from there.

Bega Falls has two parts:

This is the first one you'll see once you get there. When you go up to a much more difficult path, you will then see the second part of the falls.

And this is the second part. If you're going to ask me, the way it is located is giving us a lesson that if we striver harder, there would be much greater things ahead of us.

So cool, isn't it? I love how things around us gives us life lessons.

Going to the Bega falls isn't an easy adventure at all. You cannot have your vehicles stop right in front of the falls. You really have to take a 396 step walk down the falls.

My aunts are kind of getting tired already :D

18198410_10207109222683891_637602641981071601_n.jpg

My cousins seem to be enjoying it but their faces also look very tired. :D

Surely, it would be a tiring journey to go there but when you reached the falls, all your tiredness will really go away just by seeing how beautiful it is even more when you already dip and swim in its cold water!

That was one crazy stop right there, right? Well, wait until we get to the third stop and I'm sure, it'll get a lot more crazier. So first, take a deep breath! Done? Okay. Let's continue!

MOUNT MAGDIWATA

Mount Magdiwata is located in SanFrancisco, Agusan del Sur. If you are going to look closely into the mountain, you would see that it is shaped like a pregnant woman laying on its back.

Well, legend said that long time ago, a fairy was raped here. She got pregnant and got devastated about it and in the end caused her to die. She was buried here and then, that was when this mountain has come to life.

It is so amusing that behind the sad and tragic story of the fairy being raped, the fairy still chose to be nice to the people in our province since, this mountain has been the major source of life in our province since this is the major source of potable water here.

Every time I go to the market, I could see this mountain from the road going there and every time I do, it always mesmerize me. It really is so beautiful.

Recently, they have opened this place called "Mount Magdiwata Eco Farm and Resort" which could be the place for your next getaway.

What they provide?

It has also been famous for pre-nup pictorials and look at this photo! Reminds me so much of the Disney Movie "Tangled"

It is far from people, far from stress, very peaceful and very relaxing. This could really be the get-away you have been dreaming of. And it's only here in Agusan del Sur!

If you're going to look at it, these beautiful places in my province doesn't only provide beauty but also are very essential to the people here since they have such great uses to us.

There are still a lot more beautiful places to visit here in my province but these 3 are the main tourist spots we have here.

Again, this has been Jane and I hope I was able to provide you a crazy and happy ride to my hometown - the province of Agusan del Sur.

HAHA! :D you're welcome sir long. Glad you enjoyed the ride. It wasn't that bumpy, is it? :D :D

Another wow! for me, I just finished reading about Negros Occidental and Bohol, now I am here in Agusan del Sur. I am doing a virtual tour of the Philippines just by reading all of your posts.
I was amused on the part about the fairy that was raped, I thought to myself.... hmmm, how interesting, I didn't know fairies could be raped! ahahaha, I always thought of them having special powers because they are unlike us humans..... Anyways, I always hear legends and myths about I think almost all of our water falls, mountains, rivers, lakes, seas, forests in our country but this really is a first for me hearing a fairy being raped! I just can't get over it Ms. Jane. OMG! I am laughing my heart out now.... Truly!
Anyways, enough with the commercial (hehe). I love the path going to the higher Bega Falls, 396 steps? So when I will reach the top, I will be sexy then (haha) but I bet my calves will be bigger than my waistline.
I like the camping sites for I am an outdoorsy person and the very romantic Canyon trail, x marks the spot.
Your province is truly another addition to my bucket list.
Thank you for sharing to us your amazing province Ms. Jane.
