A DREAM COME TRUE OF AN OFW

Today, I hope everyone is in good shape in spite of all the ups and downs that we encountered in our daily survival. Everyone, just remember that life is not a race nor a contest but instead it’s a survival of the fittest. If life asked you to run then run, if it asked you to walk then walk and if it asked you to crawl then crawl. Because everting has its own time line if only you know how to equipped yourself. So, if your time has not come yet, learn to navigate life's challenges first until you reach the period of achieving your goals. Today, I am extremely glad to share with you the "goal achieved" by my sister that she even poured her whole heart, time, effort and attention just to fulfil her dreams to "build her own house" with her own finances.

So, before anything else, I will start from the very beginning of this very inspiring story of her. My sister was a graduate of BS nursing but unfortunately for about more than 5 attempts, she failed to pass the board exams. Until one day she got married and blessed with a daughter right after. Her husband doesn't have a good income since he is just working in a lending company. Because life is tough, she applied for a private nurse position in a private company and just received minimum wage since she was not licensed then. The worst thing is they stayed together with her in laws and oftentimes they got misunderstandings about anything like finances, privacy and their different principles in life.

Since she cannot bear the conflict and misunderstanding, she decided to apply abroad and work as a caregiver for the aged leaving her 1 year old daughter that time to her in-law’s hands. Leaving the country with a heavy heart is not really easy. She sacrifices herself in the country full of uncertainty just to fulfil her dreams as well as to finance her little family. She went to Hong Kong and even without that license she still received a good wage. With that salary of her she allotted 50% for the ongoing construction of her house, 30% for the needs of her family and 20% for her savings. While she is away doing her job, she let her husband manage the building of their house slowly. She successfully finished her contract and since her employer likes her performance so they extended her contract to another 3 years and she was happy for that she will be able to completely build her house. That 6 years away from her family is really a big sacrifice that she must dwelt in to be able to make up her dreams.

I know very much how it feels to work as an OFW even if I am not one of them. The longing, the homesickness, the sleepless nights and etc. is a battle with yourself you need to win to survive in that alien country. She might be spending her life ocean apart from her loved ones and carry over her goals but in exchange for that, someday will come that they will be gathered all together and live a life conveniently and completely. For that I salute every OFW's out there for being brave and resistant just to sustain their family wants and needs. You are truly an exemplary modern hero.

So indeed, my sister just arrived home last November and will be staying here for good and planning to take the board exam for nursing again and again. And last January 1, 2023, she invited us for her newly built house blessings, the fruit of all her struggles and sacrifices being an OFW for about six golden years. She prepared a variety of foods for her visitors and had a video k after the blessings and salu-salo. She had this 2-story house well-built to which her beloved family will reside for the rest of their lives. She spends almost 1 million for this house and that’s crazy. Truly nowadays, building materials where very expensive that you cannot own a concrete house without a million.

It was really a dream come true for her that failure didn't hinder her to dream big and even achieved that big dream of her. I really admire her being courageous enough to face all the trials in life in order to get what she wants. In this life, we just need to dream big and act on it to bring it to reality.

That's all for today, I hope this story will serve as your inspiration to achieve your dream too.
