Sweet Memories

Life is short so we should enjoy life to the fullest so they say and you're right guys! When love in the air, sweet memories linger into our hearts and minds. Yes, while it's true that old wounds tend to crop up again especially when "All Soul's Day" comes, I prefer to remember the good old days I've had with my departed loved ones despite the agonies I've gone through, when feelings started to dwindle as the days passed by when the call of temptations were too strong to refuse.

Flashback
It was way back my single days when I've finished a two-year course in Associates in Secretarial Science in Caloocan City and we need to have an escort on our graduation day. Actually, I only had one semester of it since I was already done with the required basic subjects when I was in college. I didn't want to teach and preferred the office work hence I took this course again to hone my skills in shorthand and typing skills which was required to the post I've applied for.

I was already having my practicum in the office while waiting for the rest to finish their 2-year course. At last the most awaited moment came and everybody were excited for the main event including myself. We were required to have an escort for the Baccalaureate ceremony. The problem was that I didn't have a boyfriend during that time (at the age of 19)! My brother told me that he had a friend he could recommend as my escort and that we're a good match. I was a bit flustered because he seldom do that being a strict brother to me. I was deep in thoughts and wondered who this guy could be. My brother said that he had told him of my dilemma and he was looking forward of meeting me in person.

After office hours, I immediately took the bus and went home directly with some excitement as to who this handsome guy is! I was walking along the pathway when I saw my brother outside our apartment with other guys facing the table with bottles of beer and "pulutan" and I wrinkled my nose. Humph! Is this the guy my big brother was referring to? As I went nearer to them, my brother stood along with this guy and his face and ears were all red maybe due to their drinking or perhaps because he was facing me at that time? After few introductions, it was confirmed that the latter was the reason because he said that seeing them over a bottle of brandy might give a negative impact of his personality for the main reason that he couldn't refuse the offer of my brother while waiting for my arrival.
While he was talking, he didn't know that he was already under my scrutiny. I bet he was too towards me! Indeed, this guy has a strong aura. He was a big hunk with cute pair of dimples and thick mustache while smiling and talking to me. He said that he's a sailor and waiting to board his ship again. Having said that gave a negative impact to me since I've already vowed not to have a sailor boyfriend or those in the military position because they're under the "Girl in every port" and the 3W's (war, women and wine) category. Lol! When love knocks on your door, you tend to break your own rules guys, right?

Lovestruck!

Truth be told, we were the center of attraction and my young friends giggled while looking at us while the two of us paced the center Isle of the church during the baccalaureate. It was like a wedding march! They said that we were like film personalities on the way to our wedding. :) Both of us were tensed too as I held on to his arms with our big smiles!:):)

To make the story short, it was the beginning of his frequent visit to our apartment. After reporting to the their agency, he would go right to our place. He was there waiting for my arrival even until nighttime due to heavy traffic that I often encountered during rush hours. I worked in Taguig and I still have have to take the bus all the way to Caloocan. On the other hand, he stayed in Paranaque and commuted to their agency in Manila then go to my place afterwards and wait for me. It was a long way travel just to see his newfound love!

The Promise

I was touched by his intention when he first approached my older sister who was a teacher in MSU and having her masters in Manila during that time. He expressed his sincerity in courting me and winning my love with intention to marry me after his contract. My sister appreciated his first move. It was a sign of respect to elders.

Naturally, it started our blooming relationship. We strolled at the Intramuros during that time. We poured our hearts to each other. He related to me how rich they were and how they went bankrupt and recovered slowly through him. I told him about the bitter past of who I am and my survival. We held on to each other and made a promise that he will take care of me in the future. In return, I said that I will wait for him. Well, he was my first kiss guys so you can imagine how my cheeks blushed when he kissed me! LoL!

It was the beginning of a two-year relationship. He was on board his ship while I worked in Manila and got married two years after. It was our happiest moment that I couldn't help myself recall those sweetest moments in our lives that was trampled with one false move after 30 years on marriage because of this thing called "Temptation".

It's been a decade since he departed and despite our bittersweet memories, I chose to remember the sweet memories which have given us 5 intelligent kids with no regrets.

Let this story be an inspiration and lesson to my readers that we should hold on to our promise "Till Death Do Us Part" and never stop in doing so to maintain a harmonious life with no regrets. Thank you for reading and my big thanks to my #steemitphilippines family for their #booming support. Salute you sister. What a great and sweet moment in your life!

Thanks sis!

Di rin ata maatim na walang pasalubong or out of guilt. Sya nmn Kasi bumibili ng mga gamit namin sa kusina. Parang babae ba. Kaya siguro inggit mga Kapatid nya saken eh.

Nasa lahat sa kanya ang feeling that time kaya dinidibdib niya na wala ka sa inyo king kailan umuwi siya siya😭

What a lovely and sweet memory Ate of your beloved husband.

Thanks dear! It was sweet turned to bitterness in the end. What a waste ..

Thanks for sharing the times you cherished during those days. Lovely memories indeed

Thank you! Yeah, it makes me sad everytime I think about it as to why such things happen but it's our fate and there are no regrets because it was one of our happiest moments worth remembering.
