Hello, Steemit Philippines!
This is my entry for Steemit Philippines's easy writing contest.
Looks like dried mud, right? But let me tell you, it's supposed to be a moist chocolate cake but a failed one. This is my first time baking a cake and I had high hopes about it, but the good thing is that it's still edible! Haha
This happened way back in November 2021. There are four birthday celebrants in November: Czak and Inday had birthdays on the 9th and Sandra and mine on the 12th, so my husband's family decide to celebrate it in the pool. Just in time, the Covid restrictions at that time are partially lifted so we had the freedom to do it. the family sponsored the viand and desserts while my husband and I volunteered o make the cake.
My sister had an oven that she received for free from her vocational culinary schooling. We asked her to bake for us but she taught me instead!
As late as 9 pm, she went to our house, which is only at the back of theirs, and taught me the process. She bought me ingredients earlier that day and brought them along with her oven at home. That's my sister, Indang above and she does not know I am taking pictures of her.
Do you see the whisk? oh, it's there. she's just beating it so fast.
Here she is, sending me the measurements onmessenger while preheating the oven so we could start baking.
An hour later, (the kids are already asleep) the cake was completely baked. Pretty looking, isn't it? but the table is not in a good position so the cake is not balanced on top.
I am very excited to eat the cake so I trimmed the sides of the cake to level it and of course, the scrap is mine to eat!
Ohh la la! it's so delicious especially when paired with coffee and it served as our early midnight snack! Lols.
Thsi s what's left on the cake and my sister scolded me the next morning only to know that the cake's destination was to be paired with the morning coffee!
But when it was my time to cook prepare the batter and bake the cake alone, it was a huge fail! I forgot to incorporate the baking soda and baking powder thus the cake did not rise and it looked like mud being in a long drought and had cracks on it. Ying dalawa pa talag anag nakalimutan ko ,haays. but at least di young sugar ang naklimutan, ano?
It was already midnight when this cake was finished baking, we did not try another one and slept. I continued baking the next day keeping in mind that I should not forget a single ingredient so that it will not fail again.
I had a perfect cake the next day and we ate it with the kids, It's an unlimited/ want-to-sawa cake. My husband wants the kids to satisfy their cravings on the cake since when someone celebrates their birthday, the kids had "had enough" on the desserts so that everyone will have their share.
So that's how my very first time baking a cake happened. They said there's always a first time in doing things and those first times are memorable and yeah, it's true; my first-time in baking a cake is indeed memorable because it's a fail and I have learned to be very careful on doing it the next time.
Oh my, looking at teh pictures taken in 2021 makes me realize that a lot of time had already passed. The kids do not look this way today and a lot has already changed, How time flies!

Hello, in short, the first time of something you never forget. I'm glad that even though the cake failed, you remember it as a funny but pretty anecdote. Don't forget to add the baking soda and baking powder. I also eat the leftovers when the cake is cut.
Greetings and many successes!

That was partly quite inevitable , as without which you wouldn't get to be more careful . And applied yourself to understanding the process more better , for best 🍰 cake baking. You had such touching experienced.
