Literally every time I turn on the TV or go out,I always hear the phrase : "be yourself, it's the only way to live".
I totally agree with this statement, but it took me a while and I'm still learning. I asked how can you be yourself,if you dont know who you are in the first place? So far here is what I've realized:
Every single thing or experience that happens to a person shapes them to knowing who they really are. No two experiences are the same.A similar thing may happen to two people but they experience it differently. Do not discount every laugh, every tear, every heartbreak, every disappointment, every milestone.
They are all a huge part of who you really are and who you will become.
In my experience, the most difficult times and phases I've gone through, have shaped me the most. Experiences should not be taken for granted.
Another way to find out more about yourself is by asking people around you.Often times, people close to us can honestly tell us more about ourselves than we know.So, dont ignore observations or remarks from genuine people close to you.
Third way is by observing yourself closely.Your hobbies tell a lot about the real you. Be sure they are the things You like and not what society or peers impose on you. Futhermore, be honest with yourself and take into account your flaws.
Another way is to completely fall in love with yourself.Write down things about yourself you like and things you're grateful for.You will be amazed at how unique and blessed you are. I've found out that when you really like who you are, it's difficult for people to try to influence you negatively.
Finally, trust the process. Growth doesn't happen in a day or even years.The journey to self discovery is gradual. As long as you're making an effort,that's okay. Trust that you are enough and being your true authentic self is the most peaceful, priceless way to be.
