El vídeo de Hoobastank - The Reason que fue dirigido por Brett Simon, actuado por los mismos integrantes de la banda, en la cual llevan a cabo un robo de un rubí que esta dentro de una casa de empeños; generando confusión en el espectador por estar fuera del contexto de la letra de la canción. Al comienzo del vídeo clip, atropellan a una chica y parece ser un parte del plan a favor para del crimen. Después del "accidente", mientras la atención de todos se desvía hacia la chica, la banda llevan a cabo el robo. Luego se confirma que la chica es parte de la operación, mientras se levanta y se va con un cómplice en una moto.

Se suponía que luego de este video clip se grabaría un segundo video que daría la explicación del tema, más los fan quedarían a la espera de la secuela, y según algunos críticos incluso se haría una precuela, pero solo cuando el tema fue usado en la serie de televisión Friend´s es que muchos pudieron darle sentido al tema y al video.

It was assumed that after this video clip a second video would be recorded that would explain the theme, more fans would be waiting for the sequel, and according to some critics there would even be a prequel, but only when the theme was used in the television series Friend's is that many were able to make sense of the theme and the video.
