Why We Should Love Uncertainty : A monologue

Uncertainty—it’s the one thing that can send even the most composed of us spiraling. Not knowing what’s next, where we’re headed, or how things will turn out can feel like standing on shaky ground. And yet, isn’t life inherently uncertain?

So, why do we resist it so much?

I often wonder why uncertainty is so bothersome. Perhaps because we're bound to safety and control. It's nice to know what's going to be; it's nice to know what the end result is going to be even before the activity occurs.

We all like knowing what's going to happen before it happens, but this isn't how life works, is it?

It's in moments of uncertainty that we find ourselves in many of the most surprising and rewarding experiences.

According to Peter Drucker, "The only thing we know about the future is that it will be different." And that is really very true, isn't it? The future never travels in a straight line; it twists and turns with occasional surprises, and we just have to navigate them the best we can.

But here's the thing: uncertainty's not something to dread, but something to embrace.

Think about that for a minute. If everything went right exactly as planned, then where is the excitement? Where is the growth? Where indeed is the possibility? Uncertainty lives within such a place.

It's where we can begin to learn and adapt and grow. It's where all the real adventures of life are found.

Resistance to uncertainty means resistance to life itself. We cling to the known familiar, and in doing so, we miss the magic behind uncertainty.

So many of the most beautiful moments in life happen when we surrender ourselves to the uncertainty of things and let them be.

Standing at the edge of the cliff looking into that vast horizon-not knowing what will happen but quite exhilarating. He is full of wonder; there is anticipation.

It is that feeling that has made life rich, embracing uncertainty which can open up endless possibilities.

Something that I have learned about uncertainty is that sometimes it can be one of the most valuable teaching tools. It teaches us to trust in the process and have faith that things work out even when we cannot see the full picture yet.

It teaches us how to live in the present moment, appreciating what we have right now, instead of worrying about what might or might not happen in the future.

Of course, that does not mean uncertainty is easy to navigate. When things remain unclear, they are filled with a sense of nervousness, discomfort; but what if we changed our frame of perspective? What if, instead of having something to fear about uncertainty, we viewed it as being part of the process toward change and development?

Embrace uncertainty. Some of the most beautiful chapters in our lives won't have a title until much later, says Bob Goff. And he's right. The uncertainty that we may face today could just become a chapter that would change us in ways that we never even imagined.

And to embracing uncertainty-that's the thing. To letting go of the need for control, and instead, trusting that life somehow works itself out. End.

Uncertainty is not something to fear; it is where magic happens. It is there that we discover who we are, what we can do, and what incredible things await us just beyond that edge of the horizon.
