Spending A Lovely Evening At Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy by @imdadratan

Assalamu Alaikum. I hope everyone is well by the grace of Allah. I like to travel very much, but I only have a little time to travel due to the pressure of office work. Still, sometimes I find time to travel a little. I go to Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy whenever I have time to enjoy the stage plays. I have seen various dramas performed by artists. In the past, I have seen many stage dramas, such as Jaibati Kanya'r Mon, Swarna Bowal, Punnaha, Jera etc. A few days ago, "Biddrohi Michael Madhusudan Dutta" Jatrapala was staged at the studio theater hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Today, I will share the experiences and feelings of watching this stage play. Before starting this journey story, let's know a little about Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The purpose of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy was to carry on the wonderful advancement of national culture. It was formed on February 19, 1974, by a special ordinance to promote and practice the arts throughout Bangladesh's districts and upazilas. Later, the Bangladesh Art Academy was established under the "Bangladesh Art Academy Act 1974" (Act No. 31 of 1974) adopted by the National Assembly on February 19, 1974, to develop the glorious development of national culture as a national movement. The first director general of the academy was Dr. Mustafa Nurul Islam.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is opposite the Anti-Corruption Commission building in the Segunbagicha area in Ramna, Dhaka. District Art Academy has been established in 63 country districts except Dhaka metropolis to expand cultural activities.
An "Executive" Committee manages district Arts Academies under the supervision of Bangladesh Arts Academy. The district administration served as the ex-officio chairman of the said committee. Each district has a Cultural Officer who manages the activities of the District Arts Academy.
Since its inception, this academy has been playing an important function in fostering and enhancing the cultural heritage of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has different auditoriums, namely Chitrashala, Theater, Music, and Dance Hall. The theater has three arenas: one is the main stage built on the model of the main stage, and the other is the Experimental Theater, which is an experimental stage method. This stage method is versatile, and the director can vary the set according to his design. The most minor stage is the Studio Theater, located on the 7th floor of Shilpakala. Its seating capacity is approximately 120. This stage is made in proscenium style.

Now, let's come to the main story…
The journey follows Michael Madhusudan Dutt's upbringing, his conversion to Christianity, his literary life, his family life, and his poverty. Michael Madhusudan Dutt was born on January 25, 1824, in Sagardari village of Jessore district. He was the only child of Munshi Rajnarayan Dutt and Jhanabi Devi. He converted to Christianity in 1843. Michael Madhusudan Dutt's lover Deboki's father converted him to Christianity, and he left his religion to marry Deboki and become a poet of England. Deboki's father gave Michael a condition to marry Deboki, but Michael did not accept the situation, and he did not get married. As a result, he could not even go to Billet. Michael's father threw him out of the house due to his apostasy and declared him a prodigal son. Later, with great difficulty, Michael went to Billet and studied barrister there while also starting to practice literature. But in Billet, Michael suffers excellent poverty and gets married there with incredible difficulty. He had trouble getting on with his wife and children with his debts in various places, landlords, and grocery stores. Many times, the landlord came and pressured him to give money.

But he could not pay, so Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar helped him a lot by giving him money, and he spent his many debts.

Dutt continued his literary practice in that challenging situation. His friends also helped him financially in various ways. At one time, he felt love and pull towards his country and realized his mistake. He focused on the literary practice of the Bengali language. At this time, he enriched Bengali literature by writing the best literature of his life. The last period of his life was not spent very happily. The economic crisis hit him hard financially and emotionally, with its impact on his family and household. Madhusudan's wife, Ariatta (Henriette), became physically ill and eventually died. The death of his beloved wife, Henriette, left him devastated. He was physically very sick then, and he called his close friends and told them about his love for Bengali literature and respect for his motherland. In the meantime, the play ended. The central time of the space was two hours and twenty minutes. The rehearsal process of the sport has been going on for about four months. Those who have acted here have worked tirelessly. Every actor of Jatra has worked hard, and their hard work shows through their work. Approximately 42 actors and actresses have performed on stage in the play.

The hard work they have put in is reflected in their performance. One of the main characters of Jatra, who played his character, is very good; the character is named Michael Madhusudan Dutt, Rajnarayan Dutt, DeboKi, and Janhobi. One of the exceptional characters in this Jaatra is Madhusudan's landlord, Rasik Talukder. His character is well crafted. I like the character.

The whole process was excellent. Jatra is one of the traditional theatrical forms of Bangladesh, which is almost lost nowadays. The initiative of Shilpakala Academy to bring back the old Jatra deserves praise.
