The hilsa preserved in this way is called salted hilsa or hilsa shutki. Various delicious dishes are also cooked with it. It is said that there are about 50 types of hilsa fish cuisine. Hilsa eggs are also a very popular food.
According to the unique texture of Hilsa fish, there are three types of Hilsa available in Bangladesh namely Padma Hilsa, Chandina Hilsa, and Gurta Hilsa. Hilsa fish prices increase due to its unique taste, smell, and demand.
Hilsa fish has an unmatched flavor and is high in nutrients. Hilsa fish is rich in minerals like iodine, sodium, zinc and potassium. Iodine helps release a number of enzymes that are useful in avoiding cancer and protects the thyroid gland. The minerals phosphorus and calcium obtained from hilsa help in bone formation.
Hilsa fish has a large amount of omega three fatty acids, iron, calcium, magnesium, copper, zinc and many other nutrients. But for many people, eating hilsa can be dangerous. According to experts, those with chronic kidney disease or allergy problems should avoid hilsa fish.
Among the 11 countries that produce hilsa fish, Bangladesh ranks first in the world. Hilsa of Padma river in Bangladesh is a fish in great demand among fish lovers. Hilsa is called the "Queen of Fish". The most well-liked fish among Bengalis is hilsa.
