A Terrible day of my life |
---|
What was the terrible day of your life? What happened to you that day?
Past year 2001 I was newly married and living in place called Ankleshwar in Gujarat state of India with my husband, We lived in our apartment, our apartment was on the ground floor. 26th January was a holiday for us as it was the Republic Day of India, so we woke up a bit late that morning.
I finished my morning chores and was making tea in the kitchen and my husband was lying in the bedroom watching TV. At that time suddenly there was a sound like something banging upstairs, while I felt dizzy, I immediately called my husband and said that I am dizzy. At the same time he and all the objects are falling down and he called me that come out quickly, something unfortunate is happening. I said I am dizzy again he ran and switched off the gas stove and left dragging me. That's when I realized the earthquake was happening.

As we ran out and stood on the road, the people from our apartment and the neighboring apartment all rushed out of the house and joined the crowd. Then the building shook about half a foot and it lasted for about 10 to 20 seconds and by then some buildings collapsed, some trees and electric poles were toppled, none of our building was damaged although there were some cracks but after that no one dared to enter the house. The day was terribe and even thinking about that day now makes me cringe and dread.

Have similar terrible events happened repeatedly in your life? How do you keep yourself away from it if it happens? And do you still shudder when you remember that terrible day?
After that I heard a lot of disasters happend like tsunami, flood and storms but I didn't experience them directly. However, every time a disasters happens, I remember that event. Then the mind will suffer a lot. I feel so anxious and scared when I think about that day so much. Because before our eyes, many people have been left homeless, many people have lost their property, many people have lost their businesses, many people have lost their possessions, and loved ones.
What lessons have you learned from that terrible event in your life and what do you want to tell others about it?
After that incident I realized that humanity is what matters and money, wealth and position are not even with us.
Due to the earthquake, the telecommunication equipment was destroyed, the electric power was also stopped, no one dared to go inside the house, as all the people were afraid of another earthquake, so everyone stayed on the road.
That night we all slept on the road , some men including my husband entered houses wut dare to bring kitchenwares and groceries, we cooked some foods and shared with all the people. We were united without any disparity of wealth, caste or religion.
I would like to invite @vivigibelis @astilem @adriancabrera to take part in this interesting and useful contest

Saludos amiga
