Hello everyone,
I hope that everyone is doing well. My name is Sukla Mistry and my Steemit username is @suklamistry. Today, I'm here to tell you about Jute, The Golden Fiber of Bangladesh.
Jute is a kind of fiber somewhat golden in colour. It is obtained from the bark of an annual plant growing from five to eleven feet high. Jute grows well in moist, low, fertile land. A moist climate is favourable for its growth. It grows abundantly in Bangladesh. It also grows in India.
Jute cultivation is a laborious task. The soil is to be made loose, soft, and smooth. So, the land is tilled over and over again. Seeds are sown generally in Falgun and Chaitra when the soil gets a heavy rainfall. After the plants come out. The field is weeded neatly time and again.
When the plants are about three months old their bark gets matured. Then the plants are cut down and tied into bundles. Those bundles are then plunged under stagnant water and kept there for about a week. During this time the bark gets rotten and the fiber becomes separable. They are then taken out of water and the fiber is taken off. Then the fiber is washed and dried in the sun. This is called jute.
Jute is of various uses to us. We make bags, mats, clothes, ropes, brushes, beautiful toys and many other things out of jute. Bangladesh earns a lion's share of her foreign exchange by exporting it. That is why it is called “The Golden Fiber of Bangladesh”. The stalks of jute-plants are used as fuel and for fencing.
Three kinds of jute are important: White Jute, Mesta Jute, and Tossa Jute. They vary in quality. Jute contributes much to our national economy. We should try to grow more and more jute to strengthen our economy.
