Introduction
Hello Everyone,
This is my post on the third activity on Content Etiquette. In this task I am required to write about Plagiarism in about 200 words detailing various way of providing sources to content obtained form the internet.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the act of stealing content whether it is knowingly or unknowingly. Plagiarism happens when some one copy pastes a text, an image or any type of online content and tries to get credit for it by claiming that they are the original creators of that content.
Plagiarism and Steem
Steemit is blockchain based social media that rewards its users for their original contents. Thus if a plagiarist posts content into the blockchain that is not his/hers and tries to get rewarded for it then it becomes a problem and really unethical. This some times happens on purpose where people try make money out of others ideas and hard works. Then there are those people who doesn't know about these norms mostly because they are new to making content for online medias like Steem.
How to not be a Plagiarist
Now let us understand how we can avoid being called a Plagiarist by following some simple rules when taking others content from online. You see when making online content one must at some point need to copy and paste or use an image from the internet as part of making our content better. This can be done without hurting anyone's feelings by adding citations.
Citation
Citations can be defined as providing credit to the original creator for the copy pasted content.
" A citation is the way you tell your readers that certain material in your work came from another source. It also gives your readers the information necessary to find that source again, including:
- information about the author
- the title of the work
- the name and location of the company that published your copy of the source
- the date your copy was published
- the page numbers of the material you are brrowing " Source
This is a better explanations provided by plagiarism.org, Here I have provided proper citations by quoting and giving links using markdowns. Refer this document get the markdown codes for citation.
Image
If you want to use an image from the internet then you need to give the source of that image, It is best to give the source just below the image a good practice.

Here I have attached an image and given credits to both the website and the creator.
Conclusion
Providing citations adds value and standard of the the content, We must always be careful not to steal any ones work and make sure that we provide proper citation in case we used others content.
I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them
