WHAT IS PLAGIARISM

Plagiarism is the act of personalizing a content, material, object, or published article. Either by adding it to a personal project or publication, posing as the origin of its creation. (Baonsquares 2021)

Now let us look at the STEEMIT COMMUNITY for content creation and blogging. Plagiarism can be narrowed down to the act of using someone's content (text, photo, video, animation, art work, Schematic chat or design) without a reference to the source.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

Below are some of the major types of Plagiarism.

  • PATCH WORK OR MOSAIC PLAGIARISM

Mosaic Plagiarism occurs when a person extract or use phrases from a publication, audio or video content without using a quotation marks. It is still referred to as “patch writing.” To spot out these content or materials is somehow difficult, because it is mixed up with other contents from different source. It attract punishment whether intentional or not.

  • PARAPHRASING PLAGIARISM

Paraphrasing plagiarism, is similar to the mosaic plagiarism. But the difference is that the copied work is not mixed up with other content or materials. In this the copied material structure or sentence remains the same in the new content or material.

  • SELF PLAGIARISM

Self-plagiarism is the act of presenting a project or assignment already used in other presentation or publications.
For Example. Submitting the assignment to different offices to define a specific course or trying to complete various task with a duplicate of a single project without a permission from a course or project supervisor.
Back to our STEEMIT COMMUNITY, this type of Plagiarism is the act of copying a post from one community to another community in other to get more rewards.

  • DIRECT PLAGIARISM

Direct-Plagiarism is a COPY AND PASTE method of transferring a section of someone else’s work, without a quotation mark or reference to the Author. It is Unethical and it can attract disciplinary actions against the individual.

CONSEQUENCES OF PLAGIARISM

  1. STEEMIANS – In my own observation. Once Plagiarism is spotted in your post. You forfeit your reward.

  2. Destroys Reputation – Plagiarism can destroy the reputation of a Student when expelled from any educational institution. It can also terminate the appointment of a politician or public figure or even demoting them to a lower level in their career. To a Journalist or an entertainer (Musician or Video/Visual Content Producers) once they go against copyright law. They can be sued or even fined in the court.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

Below are some areas by which you can avoid plagiarism.

  1. Personal Study and Research – In any professional field of discipline. You must study and go for field research to have more findings or materials for your project or publication.
  2. Innovation (Creativity) – This is for the Entertainers and Multimedia and Web Contents Developers. Once you are creative the knowledge of developing something new is always in your mind. E.g Music Production, Video and VFX Creation, Modelling and Animations, Web Designers Games Developers.

CONCLUSION

We now understand “PLAGIARISM” its “CONSEQUENCES” and how to avoid it. I urge everyone to be creative and make out time to study. Go on vacation. So you see some new places, different people and new activities. Meet new friends that are ready to make you grow. Discard any relationship that cannot contribute to your personal development. And move ahead.
