AGRICULTURE

According to the Arts and Science of Agriculture society,

"Agriculture is the art and science of cultivating the soil, growing crops and raising livestock. It includes the preparation of plant and animal products for people to use and their distribution to markets.

Types of Agriculture

There are 4 types of agriculture which include; subsistence farming, shifting cultivation, intensive farming and pastoralism.

Subsistence farming

This agriculture is when a farmer grow crops to meet up with his and his family's needs. It is generally in small scale and crops here include maize, beans, etc

Shifting cultivation

It is an agricultural system characterized by rotational farming where a piece of land is cultivated then allowed for some time to regain its fertility

Intensive farming

It is an agricultural system involving the planting of crops and rearing of animals with high input and output per area of a piece of land

Pastoralism

This agriculture is characterized by herding livestock where they are released on to vegetated land on which they feed
