I welcome you to my Achievements 3 task which I will talk about plagiarism, types of plagiarism, how to avoid plagiarism, applying citation markdowns and referencing photos borrowed from websites.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?

Plagiarism is the act of presenting someone else's work or ideas as ones own without giving credit to the original author. By this definition Plagiarism
is also known as literal theft.

According to Cambridge Dictionary it defined Plagiarism as;

the process or practice of using another person's ideas or work and pretending that it is your own source

The issue of plagiarism is a punishable offence especially in most countries and while in some other countries it is seen as education dishonesty. Plagiarism does to not encourage hardwork because the original author is being sidelined and being denied of their reward for proof of brain.

In Nigeria, if an writer is guilty of plagiarism, the writer is convicted by court of law, that individuals pays the sum of #100 for each of the copy of the plagiarised work or a jail term not more than two years.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

There are many types of plagiarism but for this task, I will be writing on some types of the main types of plagiarism which is common amongst writers. Although no type of plagiarism is acceptable in literature of any form.

1. Self Plagiarism

This types of is when an author reuse part of their former work again without giving attribute of the bring it to the knowledge of the authorities or readers. This kind of plagiarism is common amongst publishers in their article in other to make up their write up. Self plagiarism is a also punishable offense.

2. Complete Plagiarism

This is when a writer come up by studying someone else's work and presenting that work as the original author. Indulging in complete plagiarism is a way of deceiving the readers over who is to be called the original author and this is discouraging many writers as people are taking credit over another authors hard works.

3. Mosaics Plagiarism

This type of plagiarism is when a writer borrows an author's work without putting a quotation mark or it is also a way of trying to modifying an author's work by issuing words synonyms of the authors actual work to come up with the same meaning of the original author.

4. Accidental Plagiarism

Accidental Plagiarism is when a publisher do not give credit or reference to who and where they borrowed their work from, or when a writer mistakenly paraphrase another authors work.

Accidental plagiarism is type of plagiarism that occurs as a result of neglect and unintentional paraphrasing that is very common amongst students. This type of plagiarism remains a punishable offense to defaulters.

5. Verbatim Plagiarism

This type of plagiarism is when a writer copies the text of another author word for word without using a quotation mark or giving credit to the original author. This act is known as academic dishonesty and it calls for serious academic disciplinary action to defaulters.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

To avoid plagiarism, the following guidelines could be helpful which is as follows

  • When borrowing or adding a sentence, phrase, and image that is not yours, you have to add a quotation mark and provide the source where you got your work from by referencing them. In Steemit, you have to provide the link of the site at which you borrowed that information from.

  • Believe in your self, be creative, think and come up with your own ideas that is unique so that your write up is different from anyone else's own. This helps to improve a writer output

  • When expressing an idea or work of other writers, summarize it or paraphrase it on your own words so that you can come up with something acceptable.

Plagiarism is an offense that is not accepted anywhere, a writer must really show originality in their output thereby promoting hard-work. Plagiarism is a way of discouraging a writer because other people get the credit which is to be allocated to them.
