Laptop touchpad (in most cases) in Windows does not work in a certain way – this is your fault. Not the OS. In Windows 7/8.1 you can fix this by:

Navigate to Control Panel > Appearance > Personalization > Touchpad

Click the "Change Touchpad Settings" button

button Click "Go To Control Panel > Disabling Touchpad"

is the option to make this feature disabled

click on this button to make this feature disabled Click the "Close" button

button Click "OK"

button Click the “Close” button.

Now, in Windows 10 version 1703 and above you can use the following for the same:

Navigate to Control Panel > Appearance > Personalization > Touchpad

Click the “Adjusting Touchpad Gestures” button

button Click “Go To Control Panel > Disabling Touchpad”

button Click “Close” button

button Click “OK”

button Click the “Close” button.

Once you use this method, then you can go back to your task. Once you restart the laptop and power it on, you can have a functional touchpad and you do not need to use the "adjusting touchpad gestures" or "close" button.
