Achievement 3: Content Etiquette

In our society today plagiarism is one of the problems that is prevalent and most often times it seems like the best effort put in place to shun plagiarism only increases it in many forms. Plagiarist do not seem to care at all and despite measures put in place sometimes they still fail the rules and always plagiarized, and as we know plagiarism can be condone anywhere especially not in our community. But really what is plagiarism.

What Is Plagiarism

Plagiarism to me in simple terms is taking credit for the work of others. It often involve portraying or delivering the work or idea of another person as our own. The thing with plagirist is that they deliver a person's work as their own and at the same time they fail to properly cite the source. So making use of one's idea or work without proper citation that to me is Plagiarism. Example of a how to cite below.

Now what are some things that causes some to Plagiarize, let's see;

Causes Of Plagiarism In Our Society

Some of the things i believe may be the causes of plagiarism for one is that most times students are not being educated from the early stage about the dangers of plagiarism and the importance of producing original contents which has more value than Plagiarize contents. and some probably because of laziness on their part to produce their own quality and creative content they rather just copy another person's work to avoid much stress to theirself thereby dampening the use of their own power of reasoning which is very bad and in our community here that takes away what our blockchain is all about PoB (proof of Brain)

Another reason why i still believe Plagiarism is prevalent is because of the fact there seems to be no much enforcement by the law to see to idea that those who thrives in stealing the works of others are met with punishment for their crimes. Yes plagiarism should be seen as what it truly is a crime and should not be sugar-coated. Most times because no penalties for this plagiarist they are encouraged and go on plagiarizing.

How Plagiarism Can Be Avoided

I believe for plagiarism to be avoided students should be encouraged to make use of their brain power and try writing from the scratch theirself and know when to cite and when citing they should know to use proper/complete citation and whenever in doubt they could easily seek help from others that knows better and are more experienced.

Another way plagiarism can be curtailed is by making good use of Plagiarism checker after writing we should first scrutinize our work as if we are marking it to check if we can see any trace of plagiarism. I also believe enforcement of penalties for those that plagiarize would also help in curtailing this prevalent crime of Plagiarism and help to put it in check.

Consequences Of Plagiarism

Plagiarism makes one to be lazy because one we no longer care about working hard to produce quality content i mean original creative content. This also makes use not to make use of our own power of reasoning since we have accepted we are dummies and the only way forward is to copy another person's work. A plagiarizer also have little or no respect for intellectual property and can choose to treat other people's work as he deem fit that in itself is bad and Should be discouraged.

Conclusion

Indeed Plagiarism has no place here on steemit i am being made fully aware of and offenders will be properly punished or reprimanded. Here on steemit quality content is encouraged which should be our own original work and in case we make use of something from someone's work we should make sure that the work is allowed to be citated and make sure we provide complete citation.
