Achievement 2 @chibuokem Task: Basic Security on Steem

The first time you sign up/register for a steemit account, there are keys given to you to secure or protect your Steem account. In other words, your Steem account is protected by these keys/passwords.

There are three (3) major keys which includes;

1. Posting key
2. Active key
3. Owner key, and then;
4. Memo key

POSTING KEY:
As the name implies, it is used for posting articles, commenting and replying to posts, upvoting and downvoting posts. It is less relevant for security purposes. The posting key can’t be used for all financial problemsa

ACTIVE KEY:
This is the key mostly used for the financial aspects of Steem. It also relates to your Steem balance and SBD reserves. This key can be used for the following:

• Transferring steem or SBD into your savings and out of your account.
• Placing orders on the steem exchange
• Changing account settings
• Powering up and down steem
  In other words, the Active key has the control over all the funds in your accounts
  N/B: Giving out your active key to a scammer could lead to irreversible transfer of all your funds/steem

OWNER KEY:
This key is the most powerful and important key. It has the power to do anything to your account like

• Everything your posting key(post, vote, etc) and active key(transfer funds)
• Reset other keys, including itself.
• Vote for steem witnesses
  Owner key provides every change or transaction done on your account. The owner key also possesses the “Master Power” that enables it to reset every key, including itself, on your account.
  As much as it is important to keep the keys safe, it is highly important to keep the Owner key very safe and secure at every cost.
  N/B: Owner key is not to be used on any third-party service.

MEMO KEY:
This key is really not useful. It is used to create or read memos.
