According to Wikipedia
Plagiarism is the representation of another author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work.In educational contexts, there are differing definitions of plagiarism depending on the institution.Plagiarism is considered a violation of academic integrity and a breach of journalistic ethics. It is subject to sanctions such as penalties, suspension, expulsion from school or work,substantial fines and even incarceration. Recently, cases of "extreme plagiarism" have been identified in academia. source

With this, I understand plagiarism as an act of copying or presenting someone's ideas, words ,or works as one's own or without proper referencing .

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

DIRECT PLAGIARISM:

It is the word for word copying of a part of,all of another person's work without any referencing , it is replicating another person's work exactly without referencing or use of quotation marks.

GLOBAL PLAGIARISM:

It is presenting someone's else work by another person and claiming it as one's own.

MOSAIC PLAGIARISM:

It is borrowing sentences or phrases from another's work without using quotation marks,while keeping the work in the same structure and idea as the original work.

ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM:

Occurs when a person fails to cite his or her source(s) properly ,or paraphrases unintentionally without citing sources .

EFFECTS OF PLAGIARISM

Plagiarism is any ethical offence that leads to sanctions .
Plagiarism undermines scholarly endeavors.
Plagiarism impedes the development of creative and critical thinking in people.

WAYS OF PREVENTING PLAGIARISM

• Cite your sources properly.
  *Understand what plagiarism and paraphrasing is.
• Use direct quotes.

Conclusion

Plagiarism is a very negative act and a crime, plagiarism of all types should be frowned at ,and stopped before it get out of hand. Today most people depend solely on plagiarised work, which is not good , some started when they were younger and now its a behavioral pattern they can't stop.
