Hello Everyone, I'm Afifa Noor, and today I'm sharing my achievement3 post which is related to Plagiarism.

What is Plagiarism?

Plagiarism, in brief, means presenting someone else's work as your own, without their permission. This includes using others' ideas, words, images, and even entire articles for personal gain without crediting the original author. If we're honest with ourselves, Plagiarism is a form of theft. It's taking someone else's hard work and creativity, and using it for personal gain without permission. It's like taking an artist's painting and claiming you created it yourself.

"Presenting work or ideas from another source as your own, with or without consent of the original author, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement. All published and unpublished material, whether in manuscript, printed or electronic form, is covered under this definition, as is the use of material generated wholly or in part through use of artificial intelligence (save when use of AI for assessment has received prior authorisation e.g. as a reasonable adjustment for a student’s disability)."Source

There are some common types of Plagiarism which are as follows:

Direct Plagiarism

Direct Plagiarism is also known as word-to-word Plagiarism, where someone else's work is used verbatim, without any changes, and presented as one's own. This is a severe type of Plagiarism, which can also be referred to as copying someone's entire work.

Self Plagiarism

This is a type of Plagiarism where a user reuses their own previous work multiple times in different places, and presents it as if they have created new work. This type of Plagiarism is known as "Self-Plagiarism" or "Duplicate Publication". It's a form of academic dishonesty where an author reuses their own previously published work without properly citing or referencing the original source.

Mosaic Plagiarism

In this type of Plagiarism, a user copies someone else's work and makes slight changes, such as altering words or replacing a few sentences, to give the impression that the content is unique. This type of Plagiarism is known as "Mosaic Plagiarism" or "Patchwork Plagiarism

Accidental Plagiarism

This is called accidental Plagiarism, where a user makes the mistake of forgetting to properly cite the text they copied from someone else's article."

How to Avoid Plagiarism

There are many ways by following them we can avoid plagiarism . A few of them are as follows:

  • Read your article multiple times and try to understand find out if you are missing something to add .

  • Share your original work and avoid taking anyone's words or ideas from the internet.

  • If you take something, like text, images, etc., from somewhere, don't forget to give credit.

  • Properly manage citations.

  • If you want to use someone else's work, get their permission or give them credit.

  • Check your post with plagiarism checker tools before publishing to ensure originality.

That's all I have learnt about plagiarism.
