Hello, guys. It’s me your buddy again. Well, I have already completed my achievement no 2, a few days ago. So, my next milestone is to go through achievement no 3. As we can see our achievement no 3 is all about “Content Etiquette”.
After researching and gaining enough knowledge I can write down a post about content etiquette. So, Let’s begin…
What is Plagiarism?
In simple words, Plagiarism means using someone’s personal writing or word as our own.
If we dig down too deep –
Plagiarism can be represented as stealing someone’s idea, work, writing, articles, songs, research, or anything which was already presented by someone else, we use those sources as our own without permission, or mentioning them is called plagiarism.
This comprises various source details like Google search engine, Wikipedia, Books, Articles, Blogging sites, YouTube, Facebook several types of medium that contains content. It is so obvious that Plagiarism is one kind of cheating.
It can easily shatter a content creator's image. That's why content creators should always look forward to a unique and different type of content using their own brains and imaginations.
Types of Plagiarism
By analyzing various sources we can say that there are several types of plagiarism. A few of those are given below.
1. Mosaic Plagiarism:
This type of plagiarism happens when someone uses the content from other sources without using citations. The content can be anything like phrases, passages, and many more. Mainly Mosaic Plagiarism occurs while using phases of someone without using the quotation marks of the original sources. People change the phrase or grammar without accepting the root source.
2. Self Plagiarism:
This type of plagiarized content involves the use of our own previous works without even acknowledging it.
And unfortunately, it's a big issue as readers who reads our work, will always expect something unique, original, and fresh from us.
3. Direct Plagiarism:
This plagiarism can also be known as Copy and paste plagiarism. Well, It happens when someone does copy another's work without changing anything. In that case, it can be addressed as Direct plagiarism.
Besides the above plagiarisms, we can still see various kinds of plagiarism.
How to avoid plagiarism
As we are content creators, we should always focus to be innovative and unique. That's why we should always avoid plagiarism otherwise it can hamper our image as content creators.
Few ways to avoid Plagiarism:
- We should always use citations of our sources.
- We can just take simple ideas but we should use those ideas to evolve our own ideas to write.
- We can just simply avoid copying others.
- We can use a plagiarism checker.
- We should give our own example ideas.
- We can just skip copy paste option.
- We should use quotation marks very carefully.
- We have to be aware while we use citations.
- Before writing down something we should acquire vast knowledge about it so that we can present something unique.
- We should always choose unique words to avoid plagiarism.
What is Citation?
Citation is a way or a tag to quote a specific term or information that we used in our work from another source. By using citation we can tell our reader that the citation portion of our work was taken from another source and that was the root source of our information.
Example of Citations:
"Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler." - Albert Einstein. Source
"The Future depends on what we do in the present." - Mahatma Gandhi. Source
We should use ">" this sign to quote our copied portion of work.
Well, now I'm all set with the protocols and the terms of the Steemit Community and I will try my best to get along with it.
