What is Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the use of another author's idea, thought, language or expression as one's own original work with or without their consent. There exist several types of Plagiarism namely: global Plagiarism, verbatim Plagiarism, paraphrasing Plagiarism, patchwork Plagiarism, self Plagiarism and accidental Plagiarism.

Types of Plagiarism

Global Plagiarism: This type of Plagiarism involves copying someone's entire work and submitting it as yours, claiming the originality of the ideas. It is also considered as a deliberate act.

Verbatim Plagiarism: Verbatim Plagiarism is observed in a scene where on copies a text online and directly paste it on his or her work without acknowledging the source. In this case, the structure and great number of the words used in the writing are usually thesame.

Paraphrasing Plagiarism: This is taking someone else's idea or writeup and restructuring them into your own words without acknowledging the originality or source of the text.

Patchwork Plagiarism: This is seen in situations where someone copies texts from different sources, assembles the materials and produce a new article.

Self Plagiarism: This type of Plagiarism is observed when an author of a text reuses thesame idea several times when he had gotten credit to create a new writeup. This situation can be seen when one submits an assignment that had already been credited years or months back to get another credit from.

Accidental Plagiarism: Accidental Plagiarism is seen when one fails to correctly quote the source of the material or does not quote it correctly.

Consequences of Plagiarism

The writeup can be rejected or even dismissed from steemit because it is against the 'true test of knowledge ' that steemit holds so dear.

Plagiarism kills creativity in individuals

Plagiarism promotes laziness and turns the brain to be a liability to other people's knowledge.

How to Avoid Plagiarism

In order to stay void of Plagiarism, it is best to always reference the author from which the text is gotten.

It is best to always site the original source of the material and use the right style. For example according to @diangold, 'Plagiarism is the ability of using someone else's knowledge into your own personal writeup without acknowledging the source'

In conclusion Plagiarism is something that should not be practiced especially when it comes to testing ones ability to think. That aside, people should train their minds to be more creative, believe in their ideas and stop depending on other people's knowledge.

With all the above discussions, i hope to stay clean off Plagiarism for a better test of knowledge.
