After successfully completing Achievement 1 & 2, now I am writing my Achievement 3. I hope I will complete this achievement also. So, Let's get started:
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the act of copying someone else's text and using it secretly without source. Especially those who post new things online do plagiarism without realizing it. But we should not do plagiarism at all. Because the author uses his intellect and works hard to create a post. Stealing it and using it is not a good thing at all. We have to avoid such work.
There are different types of plagiarism. I have learned about a few types by researching online and now I am trying to describe them in my own language.
Complete Plagiarism
It is the most severe of the types of plagiarism. In complete plagiarism, a user completely steals another person's writing and runs it in his own name.
Source-based Plagiarism
In Source-based Plagiarism, the author creates content with a source but does not actually validate the source.
Self Plagiarism
When a writer makes a post without using any part of his previous work, it is self plagiarism.
Mosaic Plagiarism
Finding Mosaic plagiarism is a very difficult task. Mosaic plagiarism is the use of cutting from different places and using it in one's own post.
Accidental Plagiarism
Many times this kind of plagiarism happens unknowingly. In the case of writing a biography of such an author, there are many similarities.
How to avoid plagiarism
- You have to post with your own creativity.
- If you need to copy information from any place, you have to use proper citation.
- Others' writing cannot be continued in their own name.
- If you do not have a complete idea about a subject, it is better not to write about it.
- After writing a post, you have to check it first with plagiarism checker tool and then publish it.
Citation
A citation is a reference to a source. More precisely, a citation is an abbreviated alphanumeric expression embedded in the body of an intellectual work that denotes an entry in the bibliographic references section of the work for the purpose of acknowledging the relevance of the works of others to the topic of discussion at the spot where the citation appears. Source
There are (3) major citation styles used in academic writing:
- Modern Language Association (MLA)
- American Psychological Association (APA)
- Chicago, which supports two styles:
- Notes and Bibliography
- Author-Date.Source
Why should you cite sources
This is indeed a good question. Besides doing plagiarism there are a lot of reasons behind the citation of sources. Let me try to explain to you some reasons:
An author writes with a lot of effort and research. She is happy to give him credit.
The citation in your post proves how hardworking you are.
Using citations does not increase or decrease the quality of your posts. It works better than plagiarism.
You will citation for your own needs. There is no selfishness in running someone else's writing in one's own name.
