What is plagiarism?
Plagiarism is the act of compelling or cloning a project, article, picture, etc. from its primary or original source without their consent or authorization. More so, Plagiarism is a sharp practice as it presumes both stealing someone else’s article and lying about it eventually. A person can be punished if he/she is caught indulging in this act through fines, suspension, etc. depending on the organization involved.
1. PARAPHRASING OR WORD-FOR-WORD PLAGIARISM: This is the act of cloning another person’s article without their consent and replacing some words with the primary source. It is the most commonly used form of plagiarism, most people who do this don’t know they’ve actually involved themselves in an act called plagiarism.
2.ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM: This happens when a writer unintentionally fails to give credit to the original source of his content. This type of plagiarism happens as a result of incomprehension or lack of consciousness rather than deliberate cheating.
3.DIRECT PLAGIARISM: This is when a writer copies or takes another person’s work without effort to appreciate that he/she is not the original owner of the information such as picking sentences without quoting or tagging the original biographer.
4.SELF-PLAGIARISM: Self-plagiarism is when a writer recycles or reprocesses his already-used write-ups or previously published posts.
5.MOSAIC PLAGIARISM: Mosaic plagiarism is when a writer uses the same phrase in another person’s writing without using quotation marks, mentioning the author, or finding synonyms of the content creator’s phrase while keeping to the same initial meaning of the creator.
How can plagiarism be avoided:
1.Paraphrase from your source and think of a way of creating your own idea from it.
2.Mentioning the original author of the content if possible attach the link of the original write-up or picture to your post.
3.Always use a plagiarism checker to check if your article is completely plagiarism free before publishing it.
4.Understand the topic you’re writing about, this will give you different ideas and make it easier for you to execute without the help of another writer’s content.
