Plagiarism is taking someone's work, language, ideas or expressions as your own work. That's taking someone's work without giving him credit.
From my research I've seen more than 5 types of plagiarism, but i shall be talking on 5 types, which are; Self plagiarism, Mosaic Plagiarism, Verbatim Plagiarism, Direct plagiarism,Paraphrasing Plagiarism.

Self Plagiarism
This is using part of your previous work without citing. It could be from a literature review or a paper. Why do we call it self Plagiarism? This is because the piece of work may appear new but the words and ideas are not new.

Mosaic Plagiarism
This occurs when an individual does copy and paste from different sources without using quotation marks or synonyms from the authors piece of work while keeping thesame idea from the author's work.

Verbatim Plagiarism
This is direct copy n paste from an author's piece of work without citation.

Direct Plagiarism
This is copying from someone's piece of work word-for-word,without acknowledging or citing the source of your information. If an individual has to include a paragraph or borrow words from a source, the source has to be mentioned.

Paraphrasing Plagiarism
This is using someone's work with some corrections added to it ,to make it look like it's your work. The original content remains thesame even though the word as separated from each other.

Ways to avoid Plagiarism
1-Be creative and let your work be original.
2-Give proper citation where needed.
3-Dont always rely on someone's work to do yours.

Consequences of Plagiarism
1-It downgrades the individual.
2-The individual practicing plagiarism can easily be exposed.

Reasons why we cite sources
1-To give easy access for the readers to research where our work came from.
2-For acknowledgement to the author.

Types of citations
-The American Psychological Association (APA)
-The Modern Language Association(MLA)

CONCLUSION
As far as plagiarism is concerned, it is always important to cite your work. This is avoid degrading of marks or the work itself.
