Hi Steemian...

Achievement 2.jpg

Last week I posted my identity in my Achievement 1 post, in the Newcomers Community on Steamit.

So in continuation of that, today is going to be my Achievement 2, that is, today I am going to share what I have learnt about the basic security of stimit.

Basic security usually includes, Posting Key, Login Key, Active Key, etc. These are the keys. Which a Steam user must know. So I have highlighted each one below and expressed it in short form.

I hope this post will give a new steamit user a better knowledge about steamit basic security and experienced steamit users can also advise me to learn more about these Keys.

What are Keys & Permissions

Each Steemit account has 4 private keys permission which is created with the opening of a new account.

Private Keys: 1. Private posting key 2. Private active key 3. Private owner key and Private memo key. Know more about Keys & Permissions.

What are the keys used for?

When I create a new Steemit account, Steemit gives me some unique key phrases that I can use to do more with each of these unique keys, including login to my Steemit account and also login to my wallet. E.g., Posting, Commenting, Transaction, Power ups, etc.

Remember: don not share your master password with anyone else. Because master password (private keys) safe your account. And I highly recommend you to note down your master password (private keys) carefully. When you go to logging then make sure you don't overwrite or misplace your original master password or private key.

What are my different keys for?

Posting key

With the posting key I can post, comment, edit, vote, resteem, and follow or mute other accounts. So if there is no posting key on Steemit and if the password or key is used more, it is likely to make the account more compromised so a posting key exists to limit what a compromised account can cause.

Active key

Active key is basically when we do some transactions such as power up, power down, steam dollar convert, voting power etc. Even when we go to change the picture and name of our profile, we have to use this active key, otherwise we can't change anything in the account profile.

Owner key

Owner key is basically an important key that we have to use when we need it most. This is a very powerful key that allows us to change the other keys of our account. We can restore the account with the idealistic owner key.

Memo key

With this Memo key we can give evidence of our funds transfer, our memo key is an important evidence. Memos are mainly used for encrypting and decrypting.

Public key

Each steamit account has public and private keys that are used to encrypt and decrypt information.

Why We Should Be Careful with Master Password?

Master Password is the most important password in a Steam account that controls all your keys, even your owner key. If someone accesses your master password, they will be able to take over everything in your account, even if you have any tokens in your account. So don't share your master password with anyone, keep it in your responsibility.

Best of luck!
