Environmental activists poured tomato soup over one of Vincent van Gogh's most famous paintings in London on Friday.
The incident took place in the British capital's world-famous fine art collection, the National Gallery on Trafalgar Square.
Two young women wearing t-shirts of the environmental group Just Stop Oil poured canned tomato soup on the work Sunflowers, then both of them pressed their palms against the wall and one of them shouted:
What is worth more? Art or life? Are you more concerned about protecting a painting than human life or the planet?
The two activists were detained by the police on Friday afternoon on charges of intentional damage. The room where the painting is displayed was closed by the security service.
According to information from the National Gallery in London, it was made in 1888 - painted in several versions by the Dutch painter -THE IDEAL VALUE OF SUNFLOWERS IS 72.5 MILLION POUNDS
Although the frame of the painting suffered minor damage, the work – which was protected by a sheet of glass – remained intact, and after proper cleaning, the picture was returned to its place, in exhibition room 43, so it can be visited again.
