Hello great minds of this great community.
This article is about my Achievement 3 which focuses on content etiquette and plagiarism.

PLAGIARISM
Plagiarism is simply defined as the representation of another authors language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM
l am going to be listing the seven major types of plagiarism. They are:

  • Patch Work Plagiarism
  • Paraphrasing Plagiarism
  • Complete Plagiarism
  • Self or Auto Plagiarism
  • Accidental Plagiarism
  • Source-based Plagiarism
  • Verbatim or Direct Plagiarism

PATCH WORK PLAGIARISM
This type of Plagiarism, the work of someone else is simply paraphrased without proper citation.
it's often difficult to detect because the plagiarised material is mixed with many different sources including the writers own ideas and perspective.

PARAPHRASING PLAGIARISM
This is the most common type of Plagiarism. When a material is paraphrased the borrowed material remains the same like the original material throughout the new piece.
It is similar to patch Work Plagiarism, the difference is that the copied work isn't mixed with new concepts and research.

COMPLETE PLAGIARISM
This type of Plagiarism, involves copying the original work in it exact words and pasting it. The only thing that is changed is the authors name.

SELF PLAGIARISM.
This type of Plagiarism, happens when a person copies his or her own original writing to a new article (in form of a duplicate), whether intentional or not.

ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM
This is when someone copies another writing without citing their source, improperly cites the source or leaves out quotation marks on accident.

SOURCE-BASED PLAGIARISM
This type of Plagiarism happens when the writer gives incorrect and non-existent source, or misleading source.

VERBATIM OR DIRECT PLAGIARISM
This is a copy and paste type of Plagiarism, which is done intentionally.
The writer copy words to words of the original material and paste it as a new article

FACTORS THAT CAUSES PLAGIARISM

  • ICT AND WEBS
Due to the use of ICT through our devices, it enables people to copy directly and paste.
  • PRESSURE
People are influenced by friends, family e. t.c. and due to the influence and pressure they indulge in plagiarism.
  • PRIDE
  • REGULATIONS.

WAYS TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

  • Credit the original author in an in-text citation and reference list.
  • Quote from your sources
  • Create your own ideas
  • Keep track of your source
  • Check your work.

PLAGIARISM IN STEEMIT
Steemit is a social community that shows the creative and thinking ability of people when it's comes to writing.
And so measures are put in place to curtail Plagiarism rate and eradicate it from the community, making it Plagiarism free.
