ACHIEVEMENT 3@kalurich Task : CONTENT ETIQUETTE

Etiquette can be easily defined as a set of rules guidelines or customs that control accepted behavior in a particular social group or social setting. It involves rules that guide the social interactions of a set for people. With regards to content etiquette it involves the respect and obedience to rules guiding content writing. It has to do with being original and avoiding plagiarism.

  • What is plagiarism
Plagiarism is the act of stealing or passing off someone else's post as your own without citation of the right source. It is the act of commiting literary theft, that is to present an idea as new and original, but was derived from an existing source without giving due credit to that source.

  • Types of plagiarism
    Direct plagiarism:
This involves copy pasting someone else's work and passing it as your own. This is the word for word transcription of a section of someone else's work without attribution and without quotation marks. It has to do with claiming someone else's work and using it to ur benefit.

    Self plagiarism:
This happens when someone submits his previous work as new content just changing some minor details about the old work. In other words, he just mixes some parts of his old work and submit it again as a new work. Its basically copying your old work and submitting it again as something new.

    Mosaic plagiarism:
This occurs when someone uses phrases for a particular source or copies another author's work with a few changes to his wording while keeping the same structure and meaning of the original work.

    Accidental plagiarism:
This occurs when a person neglect to cite their sources or unintentionally copies another person's work without giving due credit to the author who owns the work or the source it was gotten from.

  • Consequences of Plagiarism:
    Plagiarism discredits authors:
When you plagiarize someone's work, you take the credit that the author was meant to receive as everyone now believe that the work is yours. As a result the author does not receive any acknowledgement, praise or reward for his efforts.

    It swindles the readers:
When you plagiarize your readers are led to believe that work is yours and that the work in question is a result of your ingenuity. The readers do not know that the work was just copy-pasted from a certain source without giving due credit to that source.

Plagiarism infringes the future rights of the author:
When you plagiarize you steal someone else's work and pass it as your own this cancels out every chance of the author getting credit for his work in future as people will believe the author's work to be yours.
