PLAGIARISM

Source

Plagiarism is the act of presenting someone else's work as yours with or without the owner's consent. All published and unpublished material either in a manual script, printed and electronic form is covered under the same definition.

KINDS OF PLAGIARISM

  • DIRECT PLAGIARISM :

Copy and writing another persons work without no attempt to acknowledge that the material was found in another person's work. For instance, when the writer takes most of her draft words for words from the original write up.

  • ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM :

Another common form of plagiarism involves accidental plagiarism. When the writer copies the original writer without knowing that he/she has done so, it is termed accidental plagiarism.

  • SELF PLAGIARISM :

In academic publications, self plagiarism happens when an author reuses portions of their own published and copyrighted work in later publications, but without attributing the previous publication.
For example, self plagiarism occurs when a student submits his or her own previous work or mixes parts of previous works without permission from all professors involved.

  • MOSIAC PLAGIARISM :

Mosaic Plagiarism occurs when a student borrows phrases from a source without using quotation marks or finds synonyms for the author's language while keeping to the same general structure and meaning of the original.

CITATION

Citation is being seen the way you tell your readers that certain material in your work came from another source. It also gives your readers the information necessary to find the location details of that source on the reference or Works Cited page. A citation must include a set of parentheses.
Example;

The idea of preventing crimes in Nigerian society has brought to mind the fact that every Nigerian has right and deserved to live in peace in this country and security of every Nigerian should be a top priority to the government of the day.

OUTLINES ON HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM IN STEEMIT

  1. Not carefully and properly citing sources used to form an article. Text citations and a references section at the end of your article needs to be considered.

  2. Frequently make use of quotation marks (" ") to show that where such special word or sentence was taken from and that its not yours.

  3. In all, it is very important you make use of your own ideas.

  4. Do well to prevent copy and paste works.

SUMMARY

Avoiding plagiarism is paramount as a writer because it compromises your integrity. Aside from losing the respect of your mentors and peers, it could cost you valuable professional referrals and future career advancement. If you're still in school, plagiarism may result in lost financial aid or leadership roles.
