Why does the hair grow? What the research says

Usually the hair color is black. However, black hair starts turning gray with age. Many people may have gray hair naturally. A team from New York University (NYU) conducted research on mice to unravel the mystery of hair growth.
They say that when the cells that produce hair color lose their ability to mature, hair begins to turn gray.
Anytime the hair is cut short, it grows back in a normal cycle. New hair grows from scalp follicles. These follicles contain a type of stem cell called melanocytes, which produce hair color. Melanin, the hair pigment, is produced by cells called melanocytes in each hair gland. And these cells produce two different types of melanin, known as eumelanin and pheomelanin.
Eumelanin is a dark pigment. That is, the longer it is, the darker the hair color will be. Therefore, if the amount of eumelanin is high, the hair color is black or brown. Without melanin, hair is golden in color. And if there is pheomelanin, the hair color is red.
But when the hair color is gray? Melanin is also responsible for gray hair. Gray hair has the least amount of melanin. And white or silver hair is colorless; That is, there is no melanin in this hair. Scientists say that aging is the main cause of gray, silver or white hair color.
NYU's Langone Health team used special scans and lab techniques for the research, the BBC reported. The head of the research team Dr. Kiwi Sun Nature says they have some preliminary results on how melanocyte stem cells work to produce hair color. And there is also the possibility of inventing ways to prevent hair graying.
