The image above is a key hierarchy from Achievement 2 : Basic Security on Steem by @cryptokannon.
I must start by thanking @cryptokannon for that educative post.
Retrieval of keys
Once I created my steem account it was one of the first things I did. Went to my wallet to explore and saw something about keys opened it and I was enlightened a little about the different keys and how they should be well kept safe. I immediately copied them all to my notepad.
Keys : functions and restrictions
Master password : this was the first key I got when I signed up. It's like a Key to a treasurechest full of other keys, because it actually granted me access to reveal all other keys. It basically derives other keys, so all other keys are like it's offspring. It's most important of all keys because if lost my account is also lost
Owner key : at first I confused it as being the same with the master password but it's not. Also as the master password in terms of importance and level of security needed but it doesn't derrive keys like master password. It functions like a proof of ownership when an account gets compromised and hence only used in account recovery.
Active Key : like the name, this Key is meant to be use for active sensitive tasks on the blockchain like transactions, voting for witnesses, updating profile details and the likes.
Posting Key : this key is used for everyday nonsensitive activities like posting, comments, voting, follow, mute and the likes. And because this key Is used most often, a limited posting key exists to restrict the damage that a compromised key would cause.
Also there's the memo key which is meant to be used for encrypting and decrypting memos.
Store of Master Password
I've already copied my master password and pasted in my notepad and I've also stored it in the traditional way in my journal( which was a bit hectic and I had to double check if I wrote down the correct thing)
Transactions on Steem
To transfer tokens I'd need to go to my wallet click on the drop-down box for Steem or Steem backed dollars and select transfer put in the username of the recipient and of course it would need the use of my active Key.
Powering up Steem
To power up I'd need to go to my wallet and click on the drop-down box for Steem and select power up.
I can also first convert SBD to Steem and do the same procedure.
Here's a post for my achievement 1 Introduction post
Okay that's about it for my post on basic security on Steem. Again, I'm glad to be here.
Thank @matyr for attempting this Achievement post. But please, note that questions 4 and 5 requires screenshots of the demonstration of how to transfer token to another user and how to power up
