The Igbo Tribe

History of the Igbo Tribe

In Nigeria, we have three major ethnic groups . They are ; Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo. The eastern and some southern part of the country is dominated by the Igbos. Its language is spoken across the country. This is due to the presence of the Igbos in every part of the Nigeria.
The Igbo language is spoken mostly in these states;

States	Capital
Abia	Umuahia
Anambra	Awka
Ebonyi	Abakiliki
Enugu	Enugu
Delta	Asaba
Imo	Owerri

Trade is the major occupation of the Igbo people. This proves their high entrepreneurial drive.

The culture of the Igbo people is natively called 'Ome n'ala ndi Igbo'. Literally, the way things are done in the Igbo land. Marriage, for instance,

sourcethe groom visits the family of his bride to be with his father, uncle, or an elder from his kindred. They make their intention of marriage known to the family of the bride to be. A list of items including the bride price is given to the groom to provide before traditional wedding. This is called Introduction.

Festivals are also held in Igbo lands. One of the prominent festival I know of is the New Yam Festival.

It is the beginning of the consumption of newly harvested yams. On that day, varieties of yam dishes are prepared like; roasted yam, pounded yam, porridge yam etc. It is a day where the people thank the gods for a bountiful harvest.

Foods distinctively native of the Igbos are;

Ofe Owerri	Owerri soup
Ofe Oha	Oha soup
Ofe onugbu	Bitter leaf
Ofe Akwu	Palm fruit soup
Ofe Nsala	White soup
Abacha	African salad
Ukwa	Africa bread fruit
Nkwobi	Goatmeat

Finally, language. Igbo is spoken accompanied with proverbs. There are hundreds of Igbo proverbs. It adds flavour to spoken Igbo.

In conclusion, Igbo is a lifestyle, an attitude, a vibe and more.
