WHAT IS PLAGIARISM

It is the presentation of another person’s idea, concept, art work or literacy as one’s own or claiming ownership of someone else’s style of work, design and musing.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

Plagiarism can occur in various forms. They include;

DIRECT PLAGIARISM

Direct plagiarism occurs when the copycat copy’s word to word the original work without proper attribution and acknowledgment. The direct literary theft of other people’s work can be both detrimental and depressing.

SELF PLAGIARISM

Self plagiarism is when an individual presents his own work in an understudy without proper acknowledgement to the previous work. This can be done with or without the individual's awareness.

MOSAIC PLAGIARISM

Mosaic Plagiarism happens when an individual paraphrases some sentences gotten from the original work while still maintaining the Creators original concept. It is a kind of rewording or restructuring the words of the original art work.

ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM

Accidental plagiarism is the type of literary theft whereby the individual fails to acknowledge the source properly either due to omission, misspelling, misinterpretation or summarizes the source in few words.

CONSEQUENCIES OF PLAGIARISM

  • PLAGIARISM NEGATIVE EFFECT ON AUTHORS

When the work of author is stolen from him whether visual work or literary work, the effect is quite challenging to the psychology of the author. The sensation of been forcefully wiped out from your own is both detrimental and depressing. Yet most times no one punishes the offenders. These authors have sacrificed a lot for their work which are in the end stolen from him without regard.

  • PLAGIARISTS DECEIVES READERS

When readers read these plagiarized work, they are denied the privilege of knowing the true source of information thereby giving credit to the wrong individual.

  • PLAGIARISM INFRINGES AUTHORS' FUTURE RIGHTS

In most cases, the only challenge authors face is not just the fact that their work is stolen but in their understudy they have to make reference to their copyright infringer if an early distribution is to be made possible. The feeling of acknowledging a copycat of your own work is depressing.

  • PLAGIARISM HINDERS RESEARCH

When understudy researches make reference to the counterfeit work some essential biostatistics and facts might not be included and further investigation will be hindered because reference to the original work was not made. When the original work was not acknowledged in a work, further future researches will be impossible because no one knows the origin of the work.

  • DEFRAUDING THE SYSTEM

Plagiarism steals other people’s hard work. Most copycats takes up the original work and make it better to be used to their own benefit. This makes it possible that even when the original author contest for the same opportunity, the copycat will be chosen over the original owner thereby making the system corrupted. Where opportunities are given to the wrong people.

  • PLAGIARISM ALSO ENCOURAGES SLOPPY RESEARCH

Literary theft makes researchers lazy and unreliable as they can easily paraphrase or lift an old research work into the new research. They do not bother to conduct experiment or calculate the statistics as Plagiarism creates an open window to perform a sloppy work. These researches will be lacking in a lot of ways because no real work to increase the specificity and sensitivity of the work. The research bears almost the same information as the original work with nothing new to present.

WAYS TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

  • CITATION OF THE ORIGINAL INFORMATION SOURCE

When presenting an idea or concept that is not yours, it is necessary to include a reference to acknowledge the name of source, date of distribution and others. Be sure to cute according to the citation style u choose.

  • USE OF QUOTATIONS

With the possibility that u copy word to word another person’s composition, sentence or phrase, make use of quotation to specify that the idea does not belong to you. Also remember to include the source of the information.

  • PARAPHRASE

This is also known as Rewording. It is reorganizing and reconstructing a source information or concept into your own word style without changing the general concept. Beware of this method because any slight disuse can turn into Plagiarism. Also bear in mind that you are utilizing other people work so it’s necessary to include a reference.

  • CREATE YOUR OWN IDEA

Creating your own idea is best way to prevent plagiarism. It requires you bring in your own idea and understanding of the concept you are researching on. You can generate ideas by asking yourself what reply you would have given in such situations or what you think about the research concept.

  • USE OF PLAGIARISM CHECKER

Though all the above measure can be implemented, it is necessary to also check your work with the online literary theft checker. This is to be 100% certain that your work is original and plagiarism free. An example of such site is Duplicheeker. Some of these site has to ability to identify when the plagiarized part source.
