Plagiarism is the presentation of another person's idea and thought on a particular subject matter as one's original work or project.

Types of plagiarism

Global plagiarism:
This can be simply defined as presenting an entire context by someone as your own.

Paraphrasing plagiarism:
Rephrasing someone else's idea and thought without citation, sourcing or reference.

Mosaic plagiarism:
Combining text from different sources without citation or sourcing

Self plagiarism:
Re-using passages, sentences, thoughts and ideas from your own previously submitted project.

Incorrect citation:
Failing to give all the necessary information in your sourcing.

Tips on avoiding plagiarism

Don't procrastinate with your research and assignments:
Good things takes time; good research work also takes time, procrastinating will most likely consume the time you're supposed to use for your research and then you might not have enough time to make a proper project.

Commit to doing your own work:
If you don't understand anything on your research, talk to a tutor or look for someone to take you through, don't copy someone else's work or make direct copying from the internet.

Be fully scrupulous in your note taking:
In your project making, make sure you label and make proper indications where it is necessary, always make proper sourcing, quoting and citation.

Understand good paraphrasing:
Using synonyms or scrambling an author's work without crediting the real owner is plagiarism. First read and understand the context of the project then rewrite it in your words while summarizing it at the same time and still hitting the point.

Sort Order:

Procrastinating makes it likely you'll run out of time or be unduly pressured to finish.

If you don't understand an assignment, talk with your professor. Don't take the "easy way" out by asking your roommate or friends for copies of old assignments

As you prepare your paper or research, and as you begin drafting your paper

Always cite other people's work, words, ideas and phrases that you use directly or indirectly in your paper.

Understand good paraphrasing:
Simply using synonyms or scrambling an author's words and phrases and then using these "rewrites" uncredited in your work is plagiarism, plain and simple.
