Greetings to you all fellow steemians. I am making this post in fulfillment of my achievement 3. I wish to thank @kryptokannon for this task and i will also like to appreciate @beutychicks too who guided me to make corrections from my earlier made post on achievement 3 Here

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?

Plagiarism is simply the act to of stealing someone's work and portraying it as your own. In such a situation, the work is seen by other users as authentic and original without the knowledge that this is someone else's work being lifted.

In order to avoid commiting plagiarism, works must be cited.

A "citation" is the way you tell your readers that certain material in your work came from another source. It also gives your readers the information necessary to find that source again, including:
Information about the author, the title of the work, the name and location of the company that published your copy of the source, the date your copy was published, and the page numbers of the material you are borrowing.

There are several types of plagiarism. I will explain the most common ones below;

Global plagiarism

"Global plagiarism means taking an entire work by someone else and passing it off as your own. If you get someone else to write an essay or assignment for you, or if you find a text online and submit it as your own work, you are committing plagiarism.

Because it involves deliberately and directly lying about the authorship of a work, this is one of the most serious types of plagiarism, and it can have severe consequence(s)". " Source

Verbatim plagiarism (copy & paste)

"You commit verbatim plagiarism when you directly copy text from a source and paste it into your own document without attribution. If the structure and the majority of the words are the same as in the original, then it is verbatim plagiarism, even if you delete or change a couple of words here and there.

If you want to use an author’s exact words, you need to quote the original source by putting the copied text in quotation marksand including an in-text citation". " Source

Citing incorrectly

"The key to avoiding plagiarism is citing your sources. You need to correctly format your citations according to the rules of the citation style you are following.

If you don’t include all the necessary information or you put it in the wrong place, you could be committing plagiarism. Most styles require in-text citations plus a reference list or bibliography at the end of your paper, where you give full details of every source you cited.

I would like to thank @cryptokannon for the achievement 3 post which guided me through this as i now have full knowledge of what plagiarism is and how we can avoid it using citations. I therefore urge everyone to keep away from plagiarism because is has serious consequences.
