PLAGIARISM

Plagiarism is stealing other people’s words and ideas and pretending that it is your own works or ideas.
Plagiarism is a serious offense. At the university level, it affects a lot on the assignment. Most of the students plagiarize on their assignments and sometimes they may even get kicked out of the institution.
According to me, whoever uses another person’s original ideas, work, formula, or anything should cite, and passing them off as it’s own will be called plagiarism which will result to punishment.

COMMON CAUSES OF PLAGIARISM

Here are some reasons why even good students sometimes plagiarize:

  1. Last-minute panic
  2. Feelings of inadequacy
  3. Misunderstanding what constitutes plagiarism
  4. Sloppy note-taking
  5. Slavishly copying someone’s ideas, often in the same order
  6. Working on an assignment with others and handing in similar papers
  7. Citing sources in the bibliography but in the paper itself.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

Citation or Credit: When alluding to an idea or wording that’s not your own, add a citation in your writing that identifies the full name of the source, the published date, and any other citation element.

Quote and Paraphrase: Quote means copying a piece of text word for word and paraphrase means using your own words to explain something from a source. It allows you to give only the most important information from a passage. To avoid plagiarism when paraphrasing, you need to make sure that your text isn’t too similar to the original.

Keep track of sources: While you are doing research and taking notes for your paper, make sure to record the source of each piece of information. Keep track of every source you consult. Then you can easily go back and check where you found a phrase, fact, or idea that you want to use in your paper.

Use a plagiarism checker: Most universities use plagiarism checkers to detect plagiarism in student papers. You can use a plagiarism checker yourself before submitting your paper.

CONCLUSION

These suggestions can be helpful in avoiding your work and is worth the effort. In addition to being more aware of what constitutes plagiarism, figuring out how to avoid plagiarism ultimately takes daily practice and encourages others to avoid it as well.

I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and I will do my best to work on them.
