Hello Everyone 😁!!!

I'm sorry it's been so long since my last post but I plan to make it up from now on with at least 2 posts per week🙃.
So, let's dive right in and talk about BASIC SECURITY ON STEEM (FOR ME) 😄.

In this era, where information is power and anyone, anywhere can easily take it away from you. You must know how to protect yourself especially on a platform like STEEM.
However before you can protect anything at all, you must first have it in your possession.

That's why for me Step 1 was to get all the keys.

This part was easy, I just headed to the 'Wallet' tab underneath the 'Profile' section and clicked on 'Keys & Permissions' and boom I got the keys, keys, keys (In DJ Khaled's voice😎)

Now I got the keys, Step 2 was finding an easy way to remember what all the keys are for.😅

Here's what I figured out:

1. Posting Key (aka The Social Media Key):

Basically, this key is for all social functions. Posting, commenting, editing, voting, resteeming, and following other accounts can be done with this key. It is by far the most used of all keys but is limited only to the functions above so, if you're thinking about transferring funds with this key that's a big NO-NO.

2. Active Key (aka The Money Key):

Remember the funds we couldn't transfer with the posting key. Well with this key you can do that and more. You could also power up/down transactions, converting Steem Dollars, voting for witnesses, updating profile details and avatar, and placing a market order. In essence, if you want to do anything concerning money this key is the one for the job.

3. Memo Key (aka The Unused Key):

This key is hardly ever used but it's good to know what it does cause no knowledge is a waste. If ever you want to transfer funds with a memo and encrypt or decrypt it (the memo not the funds😉 ) go ahead and use this key.

4. Master Password/Owner Key (aka The Royal Key)

Out of all these keys by far, the most important is MASTER PASSWORD/OWNER KEY. It can change absolutely any key of any account including itself and because it holds the most power, it should only be used in the rarest cases such as account recovery.

Thus for Step 3, I had to save, resave and extra save my master password

  • To save, I took a screenshot of the key, uploaded it to my secret folder then locked it in the folder.
  • To resave, I downloaded the pdf file bearing all the keys and uploaded it to my drives - Online & Offline.
  • To extra save, I wrote out my password on a piece of paper and stored it in the same place I keep all my original documents right next to my birth certificate.

After learning the essential security formulas I realised that to be truly secure I needed to master the foundational operations as well to cover all the basics.

So for Step 4 I had to learn how to transfer STEEM to a fellow steemian

All I had to do was get into my wallet, go to the 'Balances' tab and click on the dropdown menu where my STEEM balance is displayed.

Then the rest was easy, I simply clicked on Transfer and filled out all the details.

(As we can see guys I don't have a lot of STEEM tokens so I don't mind you using these steps to change that 👀).

Then finally, the last thing I had to learn as my Step 5 was how to power up STEEM.

From the same dropdown menu, I used to transfer STEEM I also found the 'Power Up' button.

Afterwards, I just filled out the necessary details and voilà I could easily power up my STEEM.

⚠️Disclaimer⚠️

  • You can only transfer as much as is available in your balance. Shown in blue under the space for Amount.
  • Once you power up your STEEM it takes 4 weeks to power down. However, don't forget the more STEEM power you have, the greater your account growth and influence.

With that final tidbit, we've come to the end of this topic. I know this might not have been one of the most interesting topics for a post, but I do hope you enjoyed reading it.

Also, a big thank you to @cryptokannon, @kiwiscanfly and @steemitblog for the knowledge.
