I could translate it into English, however, wouldn't it be more appropriate for the new user to translate the comment into their native language?

Not all of us speak perfect English, so it's common for grammatical or meaning errors to appear in translations. Even when using grammar checkers, we might be singled out by users who are 'witch hunting', claiming the comment was generated by artificial intelligence.

For this reason, I prefer to write my comments in my native language. This way, those who receive them have the opportunity to translate them into their own language. Besides, many people on Steemit neither speak nor write in English, which is evident in their content or when they message me on Discord.

I thought about it and understand what you mean but came to the conclusion my answer is: No, I think it is not.
Steemit was and still is an American playform and the language is English and so it the world's language. Also the newcomer speaks English so a welcome in that language will make one feel more welcome.

Mistakes made by a translator will also exist if the receiver has to translate. Misunderstanding always exists even if we speak the same language.

Perhaps greeters should only greet those who speak the same language?
