MEANING OF PLAGIARISM

Plagiarism means to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own • to use (another's production) without crediting the source • to commit literary theft • to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source. In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud.

For example

  • Combining sections from a variety of sources, stitching them together, and submitting the result as your own.
  • Taking big sections of text from a source and not citing it.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

There are four types of plagiarism. These are:

  • Mosaic plagiarism:

Mosaic Plagiarism occurs when a person refers to a source from which he stole an idea but does not utilize quotation marks. When copying directly, writers must be cautious and honest enough to use quote marks.

  • Direct Plagiarism

Direct plagiarism is when a writer plagiarizes another's work without acknowledging that the material came from an outside source.
For Example

  • A new article is being written by an article writer. Rather than authoring articles, he plagiarizes them from other websites and publishes them on his site under his name.

  • Self-Plagiarism

Self-plagiarism occurs when the author of a written article repeats his work. This is especially typical in situations where the text is written by hand. Even if the individual is the creator, if he needs to borrow a word from the teacher's idea, he must first obtain the teacher's permission.

Although this sort of copying is illegal, it has a smaller penalty because the owner will not pursue legal action against himself.

  • Accidental Plagiarism

Accidental Plagiarism occurs when a person exploits someone else's ideas yet makes mistakes or overlooks specifics when citing the source. He may credit the source but make errors such as failing to present the author or referencing another author instead.

REASON PEOPLE PLAGIARIZE

  • Procrastination or poor time management.
  • Laziness
  • Lack of academic knowledge
  • Eagerness to get a good grade.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM ON ANY PLATFORM

Plagiarism may be avoided by following the basic guidelines outlined below:

  • To ensure that your work is free of plagiarism, use a plagiarism checker.
  • Don't forget to use quotation marks, correctly cite the author, if you must copy word for word.
  • Present your idea.

CITATION

Citation is the act of referring readers to a source of your work. As a result, readers are aware that some of the ideas you used in your article came from a variety of sources.

TYPES OF CITATION

There are (3) major citation :

  • American Psychological Association (APA)
  • Chicago
  • Modern Language Association
