Hello friends, it is me, @peace-woka, and I am here to share with you my achievement 3 post in this newcomer community after doing my achievement 2 task. In this post, I have talked about plagiarism.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism simply means the practice of using another person's work without giving credit to the person. In an academic environment, plagiarism is the use of someone else's words, information, or ideas from someone else's already published work without citing it correctly. Here on the Steemit platform, plagiarism means copying another user's work or ideas without citing the user. It can be a Steemit user's work or someone else that has already been published on the internet.

A good example of plagiarism is the copying of parts of a text word without changing the word. Paraphrasing a text by altering the sentence or changing a few words from the text is also plagiarism.

According to the library guide for international students,

Plagiarism: presenting others' work without adequate acknowledgement of its source as though it were one’s own. Plagiarism is a form of fraud. We all stand on the shoulders of others, and we must give credit to the creators of the works that we incorporate into products that we call our own. source

From the definition of plagiarism above, it means that plagiarism is not all about you copying the work of someone else without citing the person's work. When posting a work that is not yours, it is advisable to cite the work; if not, it would be regarded as plagiarism.

Common Types of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is of different types, of which I have mentioned and explained four types.

  1. Complete plagiarism
  2. Direct plagiarism
  3. Paraphrasing plagiarism
  4. Self-plagiarism

Complete plagiarism

This is the type of plagiarism that happens when a steemian writes or copies and pastes another user's work in their own name. This can occur when someone else writes a post for you.

Direct plagiarism

This is the type of plagiarism where another person's work is submitted as your own work but is not. In this type, few things are copied from the person's work.

Paraphrasing plagiarism

This is the type of plagiarism where someone else's work is spun, translated into another language, or written up. In a simple sense, it means changing a few words or phrases.

Self-plagiarism

This is the type of plagiarism where a user reposts his or her own work again. Reposting your previous write up is regarded as plagiarism. If I repost my old works, it means I have committed plagiarism.
