Hello once again fellow steemians,
Today my task here is to complete my third achievement, achievement three on plagiarism after my hours of serious research on plagiarism.

What is plagiarism ?
Plagiarism is the act or practice of using someone’s ideas or innovation without given them the credit and claiming it’s yours, in other words plagiarism is an act of stealing another person’s work.
Plagiarism is a bad attitude and one should not engage in it since it has a lot of consequences on this program and anywhere else.

Types of plagiarism
From my research, I have been able to identify a couple of types of plagiarism that people engage in, which includes direct plagiarism, accidental plagiarism, mosaic plagiarism, and self plagiarism.

Direct plagiarism
Direct plagiarism is also be known as verbatim plagiarism, which is defined as a situation or a process where people copy the exact work of others and past it as their own work without crediting the original author or putting the work in quotes to indicate that the work is been taking from someone else.

Accidental plagiarism
Accidental plagiarism occurs when an individual takes another person’s work without citing the source or without putting the work in quotation marks accidentally. Not doing the right thing doesn’t make it legit or not punishable, it still makes it plagiarism and one should be careful of that.

Mosaic plagiarism
This is a type of plagiarism where the work of others are paraphrased without giving proper acknowledgment to the original author. With this type of plagiarism, the writer finds anonymous to the original work without citations and quotes.

Self plagiarism
Self plagiarism on the other is the situation where a writer copy his or her own previous work for another purpose. In this case the writer is repurposing their own work instead of writing a new work for the new question, this means that, one is not supposed to use one answer to answer two questions even if it’s your own answer or work.

Effects of plagiarism
Plagiarism has a lot of effects on people and organizations which some include,

  1. Destroying reputation
  2. Legal repercussions
  3. Destroys research
  4. Punishable by original authors
  5. On steemit, plagiarism can lead to a ban of your account.

Ways to avoid plagiarism
Writers can avoid plagiarism by following the bellow guidelines, they include

  1. Being creative.
  2. Giving credit to original writers or citing your source.
  3. Putting your work in quotes to indicate that you have taken someone’s work.
  4. Paragraphing as much as possible.

I have read and understood the steemit etiquette on steemit community and will do my best to embrace them.
Thank you so much for your time.
