Hello guys it's your girl again @rockana, I'm here for my next achievement post which is the Achievement 3 post titled Content Etiquettes.
Thanks to @fombae who verified my achievement 2 post with a R3 😍 .

Introduction

My post will be all about one of the Steemit most feared crime called Plagiarism.
The Steem blockchain is a site that encourages creativity and punishes anyone who defaults their creativity, and goes about copying or stealing content.
Today I'll base my content on the following;

  • Definition of Plagiarism
  • Different forms of Plagiarism.
  • Causes of Plagiarism
  • Consequences of Plagiarism
  • Ways to avoid Plagiarism
  • Conclusion

Definition of Plagiarism

This is the act of taking ones work, ideas, words or knowledge as ones work without giving appropriate credit to the owner.
Or in plane language, or term, Plagiarism is simply copying of ones work, and it is considered as theft.

Different forms of Plagiarism

There are basically many types of Plagiarism but I will like to talk on four which are most common in this community .

Self Plagiarism
This is the act of reusing significant, identical or nearly identical portions of one's own work without acknowledgement.
What do I mean by this? 🙂 Taking an example where I'm an author who is given a contract to provide a textbook for a School instead of coming up with new ideas for this textbook I simply copy a past textbook done by me for another school.
This is simply self Plagiarism.

Accidental plagiarism
This is the act of not giving proper credit for someone else's words, ideas, or research even if it wasn't intentional to present them as your own.
For example taking a friend's project report and present it as yours with sole aim of giving credit to the friend but along the line you forget to give credit, hence falling victim of Plagiarism.

Direct plagiarism

This is the willful act of copying ones work directly without acknowledgement of the original author of that work and without a permission.
An example could include copying a book which is not copyright free and making profit from it by selling to students.

Mosaic plagiarism
This is when a writer or student borrows an authors words or phrase without him using quotation marks of referring to the author.

Causes of Plagiarism

The main cause of Plagiarism is laziness and not being open for creativity.
Also, it can be as a result of lack of self esteem and fear of failure.
Mostly the culprit believes they won't get caught and so finds comfort in copying contents without proper acknowledgement.
To add, it can also be due to poor time management or procrastination.

  • This can result to legal actions such as fines, penalties and imprisonment. Particularly in case where the author sues the culprit.
  • The withdrawal of license or titles earned.
  • School suspension or rewarding a failed mark could also be a form of punishment for plagiarism.

Tips to avoid Plagiarism

  • The use of proper citation and references to the copied work is advices. This can be done by using markdowns such as > and or actually including the authors name in bold underneath the copied content.

  • Develop a new style for all post, this is achieved by having a creative mind set and being willing to learn.

Conclusion

Plagiarism is a very serious act which needs to be kept on watch and what other way to do so but by letting each other know it's dangers and effect on human lives.

This concldes my achievement post thanks
