Plagiarism can be defined as the representation of another authors language, thoughts, ideas or expressions as one's own original work.In educational context, there are differing definitions of plagiarism, depending on the situation. It can be considered a violation of academic integrity and a breach of journalistic ethics.
Generally, plagiarism is not in itself a crime, but like counterfeiting fraud can be punished in a court for prejudices caused by copyright or torts. In academia and industry,it is a serious ethical offense. Some countries, such as India and Poland , considered plagiarism to be a crime, and there have been cases of people being imprisoned for plagiarizing.
TYPES OF PLAGIARISM
All types of plagiarism involve using someone else’s words or ideas without proper citation. That can mean copying a whole text, copying just a snippet, or rephrasing an idea.
Plagiarism is the most discussed topic in this century. Before you can get to know more about plagiarism, there is a need for one to know the forms/types of plagiarism. The following are some of the types of plagiarism that I learned.
Global plagiarism
Self plagiarism
Paraphrasing plagiarism
GLOBAL PLAGIARISM:This means plagiarizing an entire text by someone and passing it out as your own. Global plagiarism entails taking someone's entire work with an attempt of passing it off as your own work. Global plagiarism is an offense that everybody should avoid from it.
The following are some considered Global plagiarism in pictures, music and videos. If someone copy a picture and use it in his/her work without showing credit to the owner, you are engaging in counterfeiting.
2.If someone's music is totally or partially similar to or identical to public publishing music.
3.Plagiarism can be describe as reproducing any painting with similar set-up or utterly similar thought.
- Taking a video cut with safe music playing behind the scenes is an example of literally theft.
For example, if you ask someone to write an essay, article, speech or assignment for you, and you submit it as your own.
Because it involves deliberately and directly lying about the authorship of a work, this is one of the most serious types of plagiarism, and it can have severe consequences.
2.Self plagiarism:It is a type of plagiarism means reusing work that you have already published. It can also involve submitting an entire paper work that you have already submitted before, copying some passages from a work you have already presented or recollection of old data.It is not good because,it can mislead readers,by submitting old task as completely original and new. This form of plagiarism is uncaring and doesn't attract much punishment, but it should be discouraged at all.
3 Paraphrasing plagiarism:It simply means, rephrasing a piece of a text in your own words. It is most common type of plagiarism.
Paraphrasing on itself is not a plagiarism. However, it's becomes plagiarism read a text from a particular source and then rewrite it s points as if the points were your own.If you translate a text to another language without citations,it is a type of Paraphrasing plagiarism.
