WHAT IS PLAGIARISM

Plagiarism is a sensitive and delicate subject that needs a collective effort to tackle as this has continued to pose as a challenge and menace to originality of author's content. According to Wikipedia, Plagiarism can be said to be the representation of another author's language, thought, ideas, or expressions as one's original work. source. For the layman out there, this can be addressed to be a direct or indirect data/information usage from a given source to another source without making references of its origin. It can be poor representation due to error, or intentional and deliberate.

Plagiarism from the academic field is viewed and frowned at very seriously is as a violation of academic integrity and also a breach of journalistic ethics if found wanting. Most times , honorary qualifications are lost due to this singular act of misconduct and disciplinary actions taken on defaulters. Plagiarism is also likened to be a an outright usage of someone else's work as your own without necessarily having to site or quote the source of information used.

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

  • Direct or copy and paste plagiarism: This is a type of plagiarism that involves copying an authors work from a source without citation. If there's need to use another persons or someone else's exact words, you need to quote the source and cite it correctly.
  • Mosaic plagiarism: In its simplest form, this kind of plagiarism entails the collection of different words and ideas from different articles/authors and hence building it up as yours without necessarily changing the words, paraphrasing or summarizing .
  • Self plagiarism: Self plagiarism entails using our existing article on our current articles. This is also not permitted as it only promotes recycling of contents.

WAYS TO AVOID PLAGIARISM

  • Use of Quotation: The use of quotation may be inevitable when there is need to use the exact used by the original author, hence given a direct credence to the originator. In the steemit HTML page, we use the symbol before writing >
  • Use of Summary or Paraphrasing: There is need for every author to summarize and paraphrase to ensure absolute deviance from plagiarism. No man is an authority in all field, hence there is need to read, understand and write based on knowledge gained without using lifting the words seen from the previous author.
  • Citation/Use of Source: This is another useful tool which can be used also to let readers know where information and data are lifted.

CONCLUSION

In the Steemit ecosystem, I see this task as one of the most essential as this determines both the quality and integrity of an author. A conclusive end of this task indirectly mandates that we have signed and aware of the consequences involved with all activities of plagiarism if found wanting.
I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them at the end of this task post. This is a clarion call to abstain and desist from all and everything concerning plagiarism.
